“Beautiful resort that is convenient to major attractions!”

I stayed at Mystery Mountain Resort while traveling to see the annual buffalo roundup in Custer, SD. This place is so lovely. Lots of trees and campsites for every kind of camper from tents to RV's, with guest houses/cabins for those who prefer it. The resort is right on the main highway (but not noisy), so every attraction imaginable is right up the road (such as Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Bearland, etc.). We stayed in one of the guest houses on site. It was like a condo with a deck! The place smelled nice, it was clean, the beds were comfortable, the showers were hot, and the guest house had every amenity from microwave to forks and spoons in the drawers! Because it was off season, it was very quiet. The owners were very friendly and attentive - they greeted us upon arrival and wanted to be sure we had everything we needed. On the way out the next day (we left early), we saw many deer. The place has a pool, playground, hot shower and laundry facilities for the campers, store on site, and everything possible to feel like home away from home and yet like a vacation without the worries. It is very family friendly. In my opinion, it is one of the nicest resorts in the area, and I have stayed at several both near and far from Rapid City. The resort has something for everyone, and it is in beautiful surroundings! I highly recommend this place, and I will be returning every chance I get.

“Loved it. I'll definitely come back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

We came to Rapid City for a weekend in early August with no plan in mind regarding a place to stay. After using our GPS to find campsites around the area, we happened upon Mystery Mountain and decided to give it a try. I'm very glad we did! The place is beautiful. There are tall trees all over the campground. It looks quite "wild" but yet you're not far at all from Rapid City. Everything was great about our stay. The staff were polite whenever we had questions. The breakfast was fantastic. When we went there was an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for only a dollar and coffee for 75 cents. It was cheaper than a drive-thru McDonald's meal and 10 times better. They've got mini golf for the family, a playground, a pool and a hot tub. I see some people were complaining about the hot tub. No, children under 13 are not allowed in the hot tub, but that's a health and safety issue and not the resort's fault. The only extremely small complaint I have is that here is a little highway noise, but you'll get that just about anywhere. It's hardly noticeable. I signed up just to rate this place. I was so happy with our stay! Please give them a try! I bet you won't be disappointed. I had a fantastic time in Rapid City, and the resort had a lot to do with it!

“Our home away from home!!!! Recommend to everyone coming to the area!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

Just returned from another beautiful vacation to the Black Hills. Our stay would not be complete without the excellent care and respect given to us every year by the owner and staff of Mystery Mountain!!! We have stayed here every year for the last 11 years - and would not even consider another place. We recommend Mystery Mountain to everyone coming to the Black Hills area! We come with family and friends every year and stay in trailers and tents - the bathrooms are always kept clean and the staff could not be any more friendly or accomodating - they even will deliver ice and fire wood to your campsite!!! The food is wonderful and so reasonably priced that we don't even bring food to cook at the campsite anymore!!! We have traveled and camped for many years and have never found a place as great as this - highly recommend to anyone and everyone coming to the Black Hills. Thank you again to all the staff for another great year!!!!!

We stayed for three nights while sight seeing in the area. Our cabin was clean, comfortable and everything was in working order. The staff was really friendly and the pancakes were dilicious. We would stay here again!!

“We stayed a week and extended it for another couple of days”

We had a great stay at Mystery Mountain Resort. The bathrooms and laundry were immaculate. The store was well stocked and their prices were lower then the surrounding stores. The staff was very friendly and most accommodating, they went above and beyond in making our stay the most enjoyable. The owner, Art, lives on site and was most accessible and friendly. The resort is located centrally in the Black Hills to all the attractions and is easily accessed off of Highway 16 from Rapid City. We had a most enjoyable time there and have made plans to return again next year. If your into riding motorcycles, you won't find a greater location to use as a home base for all that the area has to offer. Can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Campground offers full hookups to tent sites quiet and wooded.
