“Great stay for a site seeing vaca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

I stayed at this hotel because of the great location it has to all of the excitement. It is only thirty minutes away from Mt Rushmore and a small walk to the president statues downtown. If you are looking for some quiet time there is a wonderful park across the parking lot that has many benches and walkways.
On the first night we experienced the wonderful pool and hot-tub. It was great that there was two hot-tubs and an outside patio. From the common areas to my room the place was clean and well kept. I also experienced great service while I stated here. The little things are what make it so nice, for example there was a man who was picking up trash outside he went out of his way to open the door for us. On our final morning we tried the in-house restaurant, it was wonderful. The chef made my omelet right there fresh and the server was very helpful in deciding what to order. The only bad point about the restaurant was the price; it was a little expensive if you would eat their everyday of your stay. All-in-all this hotel was wonderful, I have recommended it to my friends and I will definitely stay here again when I am in town.

“Holiday Inn Saved the Night (and Trip)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

On a recent trip to the Black Hills/Rapid City, my choice of where to say came down to 2 properties. Unfortunately, this Holiday Inn was not where I originally booked, but they saved our night and trip when the hotel I did book into had fire alarm issues causing us to check out at nearly midnight. Should have stayed here in the first place.

When I rocked up to the front desk at midnight without a reservation, the young man at the desk immediately helped me and wife & I were in an upgraded suite in no time. The hotel was pretty well deserted which was nice because it was very quiet and relaxing.

Should you be able to snag a suite here, know they are massive - bigger than some peoples' apartments, with a full living room and a huge bedroom. Overall the hotel was very clean, even if it showing its age in some spots, but I wouldn't hesitate to come back here on a future visit to the area.

If you are attending an event at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center, you can't get any closer - next door - and you can easily walk to downtown in 10 minutes or less. There's no traffic noise from adjacent streets. Huge atrium in the hotel w/full restaurant & bar, nice sized pool with 2 jacuzzis. Plenty of free parking as well.

Staff was very nice, helpful and professional - particularly the older gentleman who I believe was the concierge who offered to go out and warm up our car on a bitterly cold morning!

Tip for rooms - get a high floor facing the city for great views overlooking the downtown - and that cool ride up the glass elevator overlooking the entire atrium.

Overall you can book with confidence at this Holiday Inn and you'll have an enjoyable trip!

Room Tip: Get a high floor room (there are 8 or 9 floors) overlooking the city center

“Decent Hotel - Close to Downtown (+) - Good Staging Point for Vacation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

This is a decent hotel --- nothing amazing, nothing fancy --- but in a good location to visit both the Black Hills (skip Rushmore --- drive the scenic routes for better and more breathtaking views) and the Badlands.

Beds are hard ---- very hard --- I had to sleep with all the pillows from both beds piled up behind me --- got used to them as time went on ... but still hard.

Staff are friendly and helpful ---

Hotel is close to downtown -- just a short walk (3 blocks) --- lots of cute (but only OK) restaurants and shopping

Wireless internet was weak ---

Fans and blowers from restaurant were smelly and noisy

Room Tip: Higher up doesn't make much of difference -- no real view --- but lobby is open to roof Get sou...

“Enjoyable Stay at the Holiday Inn, Rushmore Plaza”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 October 2011

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza in Rapid City, South Dakota. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and spacious. We stayed in a suite, so we had an extra room with a television, coffee maker, refrigerator and sink.

One evening, we did hear some noise, but when I called the front desk, I was told that if the noise continued, they would look into it. The noise stopped on its own, however, I was impressed that the staff was willing to check into the source of the noise if it continued. The only additional features I would have liked in the room would be a safe and a make-up mirror.

Parking was free, which was a nice perk. The business center was small (2 computers) but it was available 24 hours which made it convenient to print our boarding passes.

Liked the ability to control the temperature in the room. In the mornings we needed some heat and later in the day, some air conditioning. Some hotels do not allow such flexibility. I would definitely recommend the hotel to folks planning a visit to Rapid City.

Room Tip: I would try to get a corner suite. They are spacious and have nice amenities.
