“No Sleep Here!”

I've stayed at a number of Super 8s and you generally get what you pay for. They aren't anything special but the price works. Super 8 Murdo is a bad exception. The biggest problem is the noise. The construction offers no sound barrier to the outside or to room noise. The location is right next to the I-90 on/off ramp and the exit is used regularly by large trucks swinging into a truck stop across the street. You get 24 hour/day trucks slowing at the off ramp or accelerating at the on ramp. This is the only Murdo hotel with a similar location. Interior noise is actually worse. I'm not sure how walls can amplify noise but it was incredibly annoying listening to conversations, running water, jacuzzi noise, etc. Cleaning wasn't great and one day they grabbed out used towels and did nothing else, not even straighten the bed or vacuum. Finally, the gentleman working at the front desk was one of the rudest hotel employees I've encountered in years.

This place is beat!
Sheets, blankets, and spreads are for double beds not queen-size.
Bath linens shot. Dingy gray and washed-out.
Continental breakfast barely OK.

“Stay somewhere else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

Let me preface by saying that our family is not one that needs papering and luxury. We are happy with the basics. This was one of the worst hotels we've stayed in and definitely the worst Super 8 we stayed in on our 10 day trip.

The beds were not comfortable and the pillows were like cardboard. The shower/tub had been cleaned, but still did not look clean. I had old brown stains on my towel. You have to mix your own waffle mix with water which was a huge pain and a big mess. There is not enough room for eating breakfast. The night we were there, there were a swarm of grasshoppers and crickets outside the hotel some of which had found their way inside. This was fine, but at some point during the night someone fumigated the bugs, killed them all and didn't bother to clean them up, so there was a carpet of dead, crunchy bugs in the back entryway and the sidewalk leading to the parking lot.

The only good thing about the hotel was the free wi-fi and the hair dryer. It was actually better than your average hotel dryer.

Murdo is a convenient stopping point for midwesterners heading to Mt. Rushmore or the Badlands, but I would recommend staying in one of the other Murdo hotels.

“OK for short stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2008

This is a basic Super 8. Room wasn't fancy, but OK for a quick overnight stay. Front desk staff was pleasant. Very small breakfast room, so go early.

  • Liked — Reasonable price
  • Disliked — Thin sheets and towels
