“Gorgeous area; very nice rooms; great service”

My wife and I had a wonderful visit. The snowmobiles were a blast!! They were in excellent condition, ran without a hitch and were plenty powerful. The trails were in prestine contion and the area was gorgeous! We did some short hikes -- don't miss the waterfall! The restaurant was uncrowded, clean and provided good food. The service was slow, but employees were nice. The hotel lobby is small but pretty. The rooms were very nice (albeit, slightly overpriced). The hotel employees were professional yet personable. The outdoor hot tub was a great experience.....especially consider there was snow on the ground. Overall, we really enjoyed out stay. We will be returning with friends.

“Don't go here to celebrate an occasion or any other reason for that matter.”

We went here to celebrate Valentine's Day. The room was OK - coffee maker was missing parts so no morning coffee. Went to the bar for a cocktail and the bartender/gift shop operator/check in person made me a cosmo by looking at a book No ice in the shaker - a warm cosmo. When I commented, she said, "Well, next time I will have to add ice". I asked for some ice on the side. What can you do? The restaurant hostess at the Latch String was obnoxious, the food bland, the service mediocre. When we commented on the dangerous ice on the sidewalk, the hostess said, well, take the road instead. Never, ever again.

“Latch string resturant”

We went to the restaurant and had to wait for approximately 20 min for them to bus tables so we could be seated. I ordered the steak medium well and lobster, my wife ordered the prime rib. It took over an hour for our food to arrive. When it did arrive after waiter left we noticed I had no melted butter for my lobster and my wife had no juice. We finally chased down a different waitress and asked for these items took probably another 10-15 min before our waiter came out with items. My butter was cold and only partially melted. By this time my wife’s prime rib was getting cold. My steak was rare on one half and well done on other. I don’t know how they accomplished that. At end of meal the waiter asked how things were my wife replied not to good. He gave a funny look and walked away. Then that night we paid for a deluxe suite and had to listen to people filling coolers with ice all night. When we checked out we informed them about it there response was, its snowmobile season what do you expect. Wow! Was all I could say.

“Amazing place w/nature all around”

We loved this place. The staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and special. The great fireplace is a wonderful place to have a drink and relax with other couples by the fire and play games.
This place is dog friendly which is a big deal to us. They gushed over our dog...we'll be back.
Three hiking trails leave from the property and they are worth checking out.
Take the time to check this place out, its worth it. We are planning to visit again for a snowmobile trip.

“beautiful, but no activity at the hotel.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

stayed 3 nights Oct 20-23. Normally this would have been too late in the season because of weather. But we were lucky and the weather held until we departed.
The hotel puts up the bicycles(which besides the bar and hot tubs, are the only activity offered) and gets out the snow mobiles.
Well, there was no snow and beautiful weather, but would they get the bikes out for guests, nope. Oh, something I wish I had known, there is no cell service and internet is dial up, or snail slow. Tv is satlelite with 10 stations, of which 2 are news and the rest are CSI. No movie channels.
The little town is dead and its too far to go party at Deadwood and drive back thru the winding canyons. So evenings are a bit dull.
They had a wedding on one of the evenings. The lobby and bar area were cleared out for the function. They put staff at the doors and would not let regular guest go into that area or use the bar for several hours. We had to enter the hotel thru a door at the back of the hotel and make the trek to our room, because we were not allowed at the front of the hotel.
The guests for the wedding included 12 young children, who were allowed to run screaming in the halls and slamming doors well after midnight.
We spoke to the front desk and they would not address the issue with the parents. They just said "kids will do that". Not in the South they don't. We were taught to show respect.
Anyway, they offered us a change of rooms. We were in a suite and the rooms they offered us to change to were not suites.
No compensation was offered if we moved, etc. So we did not move.
Not to say that the staff were bad. They were all friendly. But the hotel is a bit boring. How many times can you walk the trails by the lodge or drink?
The lodge is very pretty, but activities are desperately needed. Some pool tables, decent choices on Sat TV, maybe a movie theatre, workout room....a spa...scheduled activities...whatever..
I am telling you, there is nothing for kids to do, so don't bring them. They will go crazy.
