stayed 3 nights Oct 20-23. Normally this would have been too late in the season because of weather. But we were lucky and the weather held until we departed.
The hotel puts up the bicycles(which besides the bar and hot tubs, are the only activity offered) and gets out the snow mobiles.
Well, there was no snow and beautiful weather, but would they get the bikes out for guests, nope. Oh, something I wish I had known, there is no cell service and internet is dial up, or snail slow. Tv is satlelite with 10 stations, of which 2 are news and the rest are CSI. No movie channels.
The little town is dead and its too far to go party at Deadwood and drive back thru the winding canyons. So evenings are a bit dull.
They had a wedding on one of the evenings. The lobby and bar area were cleared out for the function. They put staff at the doors and would not let regular guest go into that area or use the bar for several hours. We had to enter the hotel thru a door at the back of the hotel and make the trek to our room, because we were not allowed at the front of the hotel.
The guests for the wedding included 12 young children, who were allowed to run screaming in the halls and slamming doors well after midnight.
We spoke to the front desk and they would not address the issue with the parents. They just said "kids will do that". Not in the South they don't. We were taught to show respect.
Anyway, they offered us a change of rooms. We were in a suite and the rooms they offered us to change to were not suites.
No compensation was offered if we moved, etc. So we did not move.
Not to say that the staff were bad. They were all friendly. But the hotel is a bit boring. How many times can you walk the trails by the lodge or drink?
The lodge is very pretty, but activities are desperately needed. Some pool tables, decent choices on Sat TV, maybe a movie theatre, workout room....a spa...scheduled activities...whatever..
I am telling you, there is nothing for kids to do, so don't bring them. They will go crazy.
