“Antebellum Treasure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2010

The Merridun is a grand antebellum Mansion, with 14 foot ceilings, one gets the impression of being in a European castle. Recent renovations were recently done and the intricate porch ceiling had been painted and looks great. Phenomenal food, the Merridun is the only place in Union county to get a good upscale meal and the innkeeper is a warm and accomodating host. I would recommend this Inn for anyone who wants to get away and stay in a historic estate....

“NOT WHAT I EXPECTED”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2010

We were looking forward to stepping back in history. At first glance everything looked fine. Upon further inspection the mansion needed a lot or work and a good cleaning. Our room, very spacious, bed comfy, but dust around the edges of the floors. My huge disappointment was the claw foot tub. No way was I going to take a soak. The bottom had flakes and layers of peeling paint; some flakes in the drain. Old rubber mat with water underneath, and mold on the bottom of the shower curtain. Hair and pieces of lint (tissue???) on throw rug in bathroom. Having stayed at over 40 B&B's, some with combo claw-foot/shower and never experienced anything but shiny, spotless, and clean tubs and curtains. Peggy, the innkeeper was very warm and friendly. Her cooking skills was excellent and we loved the gourmet dinner and breakfast. Needs to pay more attention to cleanliness and for that reason was given a poor rating. I would not recommend this B&B to my friends.

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2008

We traveled to visit with family and absolutely loved our three day stay. The food was amazing, the hospitality received from Peggy and her family will not be beat. She fed my daughter a bottle so that my wife and I could enjoy a breakfast together. Something we have not enjoyed in over 12 months. The house is a tad bit over 153 years old, so yes it has a few characteristics that might not please those who do not appreciate the historical significance of the property. The house/mansion has more character than an entire chain of Motel 8's. :) We stayed in Lucy's Garden Retreat and fell in love with the room from the moment we walked through the door. The ceilings must be 12 foot tall with 10 foot doors. The decor had me drifting back in time and wondering what conversations and people those walls must have seen and heard. The furniture was wonderful and absolutely true to its era. I would recommend Merridun to any and everyone who can appreciate its history and charm. I'm a yankee and still enjoyed every minute I was allowed to take in the atmosphere. :) This is a must see again/return visit required for me.

“Missing JD”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2008

I spent another delightful few days at the Inn, have been coming since 1995. It is showing its age, with peeling paint and plaster problems, but this is a great place! One very fun part of the stay is sadly no more - JD the Inn Cat died in late April after a very long and pleasant tour of duty as the Inn's spokes-cat. But the hospitality, conviviality and great food are still present, and Peggy is a great host. The house spirits have never shown themselves to me, but according to the journal (entries contributed by guests) they have been subtly and kindly showing up of late. They are decidedly happy to have guests and I think provide the basis for the welcoming feel of this historic home. Anyone put off by appearances is missing the chance of a lifetime to see a real antebellum property being used, not held as a museum.
