“Didn't know what to expect.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Service was great, we stayed in an executive suite and there was plenty of room. Big nice four post bed, large rug, couch and chairs, and a nice gas fire place. The bathroom was ideal except for the fact that the shower is a little small. My wife loved the complimentary afternoon tea. The restaurant was nice but expensive. The bar area was a disappointment. If you want a drink you can get one but they don't really care if you do or don't. They will tell you, the bar area is mostly there for people that want a drink before or after dinner at the restaurant. The valets and housekeeping were great. While visiting this Inn, definitely visit the Red Pepper Italian restaurant in Summervile as an option for dinner. Do not visit Margaritas. How do you mess up Mexican food? Great experience overall.

Room Tip: Executive suites are definitely nice.

“Food poisoning”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011 via mobile

What a horrific experience. My work had our Christmas party here last weekend. Everyone told me how 5 star amazing this place was and my wife and I were very excited.
Everything started out uneventful untill dinner. They were making a special menu for our party. When they asked for our dinner choices they didn't ask how to cook the steak. I called the waiter back and asked for no more than medium rare. When it came it was so over cooked I couldn't even eat it. They also served some salmon purée and scallops. By 10pm I wasn't feeling well and my wife and I went to bed. By 2 am I was cramping severely and then the vomiting started. It was a bad case of food poisoning. On top of tossing and turning all night. The matress was worse than the ramada inn I stayed at a few weeks ago. Lumpy and you could feel the springs in the sags. The next morning my wife and I tried to take a shower and the giant soaking tub was so high they had a step stool to get up to it but I had to help my pregnant wife down into it. Then there wasn't even enough water pressure to wash our hair. I'm not talking about light pressure but no pressure.
When we checked out the desk wouldn't even acknowledge I got food poisoning.
Since I wasn't feeling well I forgot my phone charger and called back and asked if they found it. The desk took my number and said they would call me back. 24 hours later I still hadn't heard so I called back and asked for a manager. I was told to leave a message I said no, find a manager now. Finally the manager got on and after I told him all this he bluntly told me there was no way his hotel gave me food poisoning. I said are you a doctor? Did your staff even acknowledge me? On what basis are you making your diagnosis? I said it only takes one bad scallop to make someone sick. He said that was not the case. I said Im not going to debate it just find my phone charger and mail it to me.

All in all, I think there 5 stars rating should be revoked and I'm also contacting summervilles health department to see if they disagree with the managers diagnosis. If you are considering having a party here or even staying here I think there are much better places in town than this one.

“Nice but not 5-star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

The Woodlands is a nice facility, but not up to the 5-star ratings that they boast. A 5-star facility should offer multiple activities, spa, indoor-outdoor pools, HDTV, , etc. They advertised USA Today delivery to the room but only the local paper was provided. Shower very small. You're better off paying an equivalent price in Charleston and getting all that city's amenities.

“Enjoyed our visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011

Thought it was a great value for the price we paid. However, I don’t get the 5 star rating. We noticed some of things in previous reviews such as cleanliness issues and shoddy bedding. Our old mattress sunk to the middle with the 3 dinky pillows on our king bed. This seems like it would be an easy fix if they just tried to replicate the underlying bedding you find at a Westin or even a Hampton Inn.
The restaurant is excellent with great food & service. It does carry a 5 star price. All in all , we enjoyed our visit & recommend, but if you go with 5 star expectations, you’ll be disappointed.

“Nice Inn, wonderful food, excellent service.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

This is a very nice Inn. We have stayed here twice and each room is very different. The first room we stayed in was a junior suite on the third floor - it had a sleeper sofa, a small bathroom and upon check-in the room was very hot (we visited in July). The A/C worked well, though, and it did cool down. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast was expensive, but unbelievably good.

The second room we stayed in was a junior suite on the second floor. This room was much larger, with a huge bathroom (even had a bidet which was a first for us!), and wonderful large windows that opened to the front of the Inn. The bed was not as comfortable, though.

During both stays, the food was amazing! Definitely get breakfast - it's worth it.

There were two things I did not like... the location is not great. It's only a 25 minute drive or so to downtown Charleston, but there are plenty of great inns in that area for the same or less price. Second, the Inn does allow pets. That was a turn-off for us, but some may enjoy being able to take their animals along.

Overall, a great experience and worth a try.

Room Tip: Stay on the second floor.
