“Plain but perfect for the occasion”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

My son was getting married in Spartansburg, SC, so we needed a hotel for our family coming down from Pennsylvania which would be convenient to Spartansburg and the airport in Greer at a good price. The Days Inn at Waccamaw is an older hotel but it was only a mile off of I-85 and 15 minutes from the airport and Spartansburg. The hotel is old and no frills but it is clean, with hot showers, free breakfast, and a wonderfully friendly staff all for $45 a night.

“Friendly staff, but terrible beds”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Stayed here 3 nights for the ABA BMX Redline Cup Finals. Had seen the review of the lumpy bed, but was hoping it would be ok.

The hotel itself is not too bad. The staff were super friendly. Arrived after midnight and the clerk had my info ready and was aware of my arrival. So first impression was good. Unfortunately, the room had not been cleaned properly. There were pee spots left on the toilet, which was gross. And hair left in the tub/shower. Did call the front desk to let them know. He said he would let the cleaning lead know. They did do a good job cleaning later, although threw a McDonalds big plastic cup away. In my opinion, cleaning staff should not throw guests things away that are not in the trash can even if they think it is trash. Towel rack in the bathroom was partly coming off the wall. And the tub could use a re-caulking. It seemed like the alarm clock was not working either, but had cell phones so not really a problem.

The BIG issue though is the beds. It was awful. And will NOT stay at a DAYS INN again, and especially not this one, until the beds are replaced. I wouldn't say it was lumpy, but it made a crackle noise/groan every time you moved. The beds were also not comfortable at all. Usually if you stay somewhere 3 nights, the first night you can expect maybe not the best sleep, but usually by the 3rd night you are used to the place and can sleep. Each night though seemed to get progressively worse. Got a crick in my neck, back, and shoulder blades from such poor terrible beds. So left the hotel in pain and not rested, and thus in worse shape than when I arrived. Please replace the beds, they are terrible. Also the pillows should be upgraded as well. Was in room # 130 near the pool. Parking was not really convenient for this room either, but wasn't a huge deal.

On the plus side, the staff were good. The breakfast was fine w/ a waffle maker, apple juice, orange juice, and cereal. Hours of 6-10 were convenient.

The best thing about this place was that it was within walking distance of FATZ, which I highly recommend. Ate there twice. They give you a sample chicken specialty taste if it is your first time there. The waitresses, staff, and manager all did a fantastic job. They were super friendly. Prices were reasonable. I highly recommend FATZ. The food is excellent as well. The Waffle House is within walking distance too. The waitress there was super nice as well. Have to say people in SC are very friendly and nice.

Next door to DAYS INN was an Econo Lodge that advertised pillow top mattresses. My guess is those beds were better than the Days Inn. Although saw some poor reviews as well so appears Spartanburg hotels need to improve to an extent all around. There was a Howard Johnsons next door too, but they don't allow pets. Which it was good that Days Inn did allow pets and the $10 per day was reasonable. You could slightly hear the fwy traffic noise, but it wasn't too bad. With the AC unit on, you couldn't hear the fwy, but the ac unit was a little bit loud.

Bottom line though, I will not stay here again without the beds being replaced. It just wasn't worth the pain and misery I am still in. With better beds, it would be an ok hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a brand new bed. Otherwise choose a different hotel.

“Nice Desk Clerk... but there were lumpy old mattress tho”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2011

Hubby and I were ready to find a place to stay as we had been on the road most of the day..so we chose this location. The desk clerk was a sweet heart, she was very accomodating, we asked for a NON smoking room but the room smelled like some one had just smoked in it,, so we got another room. Smelled really clean, the matteress really needs to be replaced,, they were lumpy and just plain OLD. We would stay there again if we happened to be in the area again/

Room Tip: If room is not the way it should be just go to the front desk and ask to be moved. NO iron ??? ASK f...

“OK, could do worse”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011

This used to be my regular place to stay in this area, but even though I was a frequent face, I found the rates variable, and the room I was assigned to be increasingly less desireable, and in the rear of the hotel, facing the noisy pool and parking lot where the intinerant construction type workers seem to congregate.
The owner or manage suggested I stop booking online, and i would get the same rate as a walk in, but the various desk clerks didn't seem to get the message.
Still, an OK stay, if you book online and pay a reasonable price.

There are two fast food places in the area, two sit down restaurants, and it's convenient to I 26.

Room was clean and comfortable. Location is good for a one-night stop on the road. Desk staff was VERY helpful and courteous. Would stay here again if timing had me stop in the area.
