Stayed here 3 nights for the ABA BMX Redline Cup Finals. Had seen the review of the lumpy bed, but was hoping it would be ok.
The hotel itself is not too bad. The staff were super friendly. Arrived after midnight and the clerk had my info ready and was aware of my arrival. So first impression was good. Unfortunately, the room had not been cleaned properly. There were pee spots left on the toilet, which was gross. And hair left in the tub/shower. Did call the front desk to let them know. He said he would let the cleaning lead know. They did do a good job cleaning later, although threw a McDonalds big plastic cup away. In my opinion, cleaning staff should not throw guests things away that are not in the trash can even if they think it is trash. Towel rack in the bathroom was partly coming off the wall. And the tub could use a re-caulking. It seemed like the alarm clock was not working either, but had cell phones so not really a problem.
The BIG issue though is the beds. It was awful. And will NOT stay at a DAYS INN again, and especially not this one, until the beds are replaced. I wouldn't say it was lumpy, but it made a crackle noise/groan every time you moved. The beds were also not comfortable at all. Usually if you stay somewhere 3 nights, the first night you can expect maybe not the best sleep, but usually by the 3rd night you are used to the place and can sleep. Each night though seemed to get progressively worse. Got a crick in my neck, back, and shoulder blades from such poor terrible beds. So left the hotel in pain and not rested, and thus in worse shape than when I arrived. Please replace the beds, they are terrible. Also the pillows should be upgraded as well. Was in room # 130 near the pool. Parking was not really convenient for this room either, but wasn't a huge deal.
On the plus side, the staff were good. The breakfast was fine w/ a waffle maker, apple juice, orange juice, and cereal. Hours of 6-10 were convenient.
The best thing about this place was that it was within walking distance of FATZ, which I highly recommend. Ate there twice. They give you a sample chicken specialty taste if it is your first time there. The waitresses, staff, and manager all did a fantastic job. They were super friendly. Prices were reasonable. I highly recommend FATZ. The food is excellent as well. The Waffle House is within walking distance too. The waitress there was super nice as well. Have to say people in SC are very friendly and nice.
Next door to DAYS INN was an Econo Lodge that advertised pillow top mattresses. My guess is those beds were better than the Days Inn. Although saw some poor reviews as well so appears Spartanburg hotels need to improve to an extent all around. There was a Howard Johnsons next door too, but they don't allow pets. Which it was good that Days Inn did allow pets and the $10 per day was reasonable. You could slightly hear the fwy traffic noise, but it wasn't too bad. With the AC unit on, you couldn't hear the fwy, but the ac unit was a little bit loud.
Bottom line though, I will not stay here again without the beds being replaced. It just wasn't worth the pain and misery I am still in. With better beds, it would be an ok hotel.
Room Tip: Ask for a room with a brand new bed. Otherwise choose a different hotel.
