“OK for a Marriott, but just be on guard”

We stayed there for 1 night for pleasure. We were upgraded to a nice corner room. The staff and the food were quite good. I asked for "no express checkout:". I have some Marriott gift cards when we were going to check out. I then wanted them applied to the bill the following day. Sure enough, I got express checkout. That morning, we had to waste 30 minutes for the C/O person to go and manually adjust the bill. On top of the that unpleasant incident, when we were leaving the parking garage (which had no lights), I ran over something. I then found out I blew the tire and bent the rim. Thank God I had a spare tire.

Room Tip: Just be careful driving out of their poorly lit parking garage.

“What Happened?”

I'm still in shock. I attended a two day conference at this hotel. Check in started out fine; then we couldn't get into the room we were given. We got another room and in the process noticed another traveler standing outside her room, unable to get in. The room itself was spacious and included a desk, small sofa and fridge. How can I put this? The pillows and coverlet.....stunk like old stinky perspiration. The next morning my spouse complained of "pillow head"....which usually means feather pillows or old, dirty pillows (dustmites.) We attended Day 1 of the conference. A fellow traveler looked MISERABLE at breakfast. NO sleep because of a horrible stench in their sheets like someone had broken an entire bottle of musk cologne on the bed. I guess old perspiration stink was better than musk cologne judging by their condition. The conference room was nice; the water pitchers were some kind of metal and the water tasted like metal...the whisper around the room was don't drink the water, which I didn't hear until I had drunk and tasted some of the metallic tasting water. Our fellow traveler did get the front desk to change sheets and use odor neutralizer on Night 2 but only got 2 wash cloths and a bath mat; NO towels! We got towels; I used the fresh smelling cotton robe provided by the hotel and placed it on top of the pillows/sheets on Night 2 to kill the perspiration stench from some previous travelers. At the end of Day 2 Conference, we spoke with some of the people in charge of the conference. One said she had NO towels. She was also the woman we say standing in the hall during our check in who couldn't get in her room. I have never had an experience like this in a Marriott. The facility is beautiful; the staff were pleasant; the breakfasts in the restaurant were great. The housekeeping? Terrible on this trip! I questioned whether I should write this review; I love Spartanburg. It is pro business, the people are friendly and this Marriott should be one of the best. I can only hope that this will provide a wake up call by management to improve housekeeping.

“Hotel has a wonderful outside patio.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 December 2011

Enjoyed staying here for a wedding with the entire wedding party. We were all able to get together outside on the bar patio both nights without dealing with being to loud for others around us in rooms. It was cold but the gas fire pit on the tables made it wonderful. Nice clean rooms and helpful staff.

“Nice hotel with great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Recently spent a night at the Spartanburg Marriott. I had an upgraded corner king room which was rather huge! Too bad it was only for one night. Everything about the room was in typical Marriott fashion, but of a slightly oder design. My only complaint is that the outlets near the bed where behind the side table.

We had drinks in the sports bar and returned there for dinner. The service was a bit slow due to some new personnel but it wasn't a problem and the food was excellent.

For the frequent Marriott guest, there wasn't a concierge lounge, but the hotel offered complimentary breakfast for gold+ members. The bar also had several tables available where I saw people working so there must have been ready access to outlets.

All in all, it was a very nice stay and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
