I stayed at the Country Inns & Suites in Orangeburg, South Carolina on July 5, 2011. The hotel was clean, and the people were friendly. The hotel has an exercise room consisting of some simple equipment like treadmills and an exercise bike. There is also a small indoor pool and hot tube; actually the hot tub is large, in that it is actually a small rectangular pool. The room I was in had 2 full size beds, a dorm room size refrigerator, microwave, TV, coffee maker – well, the normal stuff you would expect in a more expensive hotel. At the front desk, they had coffee, cookies, and apples. The hotel also allows pets, which is not a problem.
The room was very clean, and the bed felt like it was new -- the mattress was nice and firm with lots of support. Very comfortable.
The Hotels biggest PLUS is the staff. They are very hospitable. They reminded me of the personalized attention of a bed and breakfast. And speaking of breakfast, well, in the morning there was breakfast. I don't know if this is the southern version of a continental breakfast, but it's impressive. They had waffles, scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs, sausage, cereal, oatmeal, waffles, biscuits and sausage gravy, apple juice, orange juice, peach punch (yep, this is South Carolina), milk, cinnamon rolls, bagels and fruit; oops, forgot, there is also coffee. Yep, a full breakfast that is tended to by a delightful hotel employee.
If the breakfast is not good enough for you, or if you would rather be served breakfast than getting it yourself, then there is a Cracker Barrel next door. Actually, I walked over there for supper the night I arrived. I believe there is also a waffle house close by, but the breakfast at the hotel is far more than I usually eat for breakfast, and they do a good job.
The hotel is off the main road a few blocks, which I liked; no road noise. There is nothing worse than being in a hotel where you hear trucks all night.
The only complaint I had, if you would even call it that, was when I arrived in my room, there was a strong perfume smell which I was told was a room deodorizer. I simply opened my window and aired out the room for a few minutes. It ended up not being a problem at all.
The nights stay was in the $100 range, which is a great value for the money.
Would I stay at this hotel again? Definitely.
