“Much needed Beach get-away”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2010

I'd read several reviews of this property. The range of satisfaction was top to bottom. I must say that I have been visiting North Myrtle Beach since I was a child in the 1960's. This property has been in business since at least the 1970's.

The location is wonderful. Ocean front rooms and efficiencies that afford quick access to the beach and a small pool/hot-tub. There are few amenities and none that could be called "luxurious". However, if you are looking for a basic ocean front accomodation, this property hits the spot. A short drive down Ocean Blvd. puts you in shopping and dining areas. We rented a room with a small eff. kitchen. We choose to drive into Cherry Grove and purchase fresh seafood to cook in the room. With a young son, this allowed us to eat dinner w/out any agenda and to tell you the truth, most of the restaurants cannot beat the flavor of cooking your own shrimp and fish vs. the high cost of grease filled buffets.

We will return to this property, but we will bring bleach enhanced bathroom cleaners to beat back the mildew stains. This would be a turn-off to more pampered minded quests. To us, quick access to the beach from ocean front in OD/Crescent or Cherry Grove is what we want when headed to the SC coast.

“Don't even bother”

If you're in college and want a trip that isn't too expensive and live in frat-house conditions.....this is the place for you. The Red Tree has nerve charging $80 per night for a dump. The owner is laughing every month as he deposits his bank slips for this place. It's a crime that no money has been invested to upkeep the place. It looks like a low-income housing development with locks that do not lock properly and cigarette smoke permeating everywhere. Great location! that's about it! There are too many other pretty and affordable places in North Myrtle Beach to stay.

“If you can afford better DO SO! don't stay here”

it was ocean front with large buildings on both sides. Not good for taking picture of sunrise and sun set. The kitchen.... I had to ask for a different coffee pot, silverware and cups. The cabinets and microwave where leaning forward like they were going to fall off the wall. The bed had hitch hikers in it. Small plant balls that stick to your clothes and poke you. Came back from the beach and had no power. The front desk person came to trip the breaker. Then the smoke alarm went off @ 9pm and I wasn't cooking. They came and took it off the wall for the night. Patio door stuck the clerk had to work hard to get the door open. The pool and hot tub was NASTY. Never saw a person clean it nor was it ever clear water. Hot Tub full of sand and only one jet worked. Never ice in the ice machine. I will not stay there again.

“It is not a four star hotel, but you are not paying for a four star hotel.”

I have read the other reviews, and did not find any of these problems. There were no holes in the ceiling, no bugs, no mold, no holes in the bedding. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to help. The room was older and the carpet was worn, but the room was clean and was cleaned and vaccumed every day. We stayed in ah effiency that was poolside. Our first day there, the fridge quit working, within an hour we had a new one, and housekeeping was sent in to clean under where the old one was.
We took our DVD with us so we could watch movies in our room, but the tv was older and did not have a way to connect to the DVD player, I went to the office to ask if they knew how to hook up the DVD player. He pollowed me back to the room with a new flatscreen tv and hooked the DVD player up for me. When we checked out, they appoligized again for the problem we had with the fridge, and returned a half days rent for the inconvience.

If you want luxury you will not find it here but it was clean and quiet. Lots of families were there. We stayed with our 2 daughters who are 20. We had ajoining rooms on 2nd floor. We would not hesitate to stay again.
