We flew into Charleston for a short weekend visit and wanted to spend our money on enjoying the local cuisine rather than a fancy hotel, therefore I booked the Country Inn & Suites in North Charleston on Ashley Phosphate Road. I've had good experience with Country Inns before and this facility did not disappoint. We arrived quite late on Friday but were met by a smiling upbeat Jamaul Clark, the desk clerk. Checking in was quick and soon we were in our quiet, spacious room overlooking the front parking lot. The room was clean and well appointed, with lots of fluffy towels. The free breakfast included cereals, waffles, bagels, bread, fruit and the Southern staple, sausage gravy over biscuits. Orange juice, freshly brewed coffee and tea rounded out the offerings. The attended breakfast area was large and tidy. As we were leaving for dinner Saturday evening, Jamaul was at the front desk again. He suggested that after dinner we drive over to the Holiday Festival of Lights being held in James River Park. He even printed out directions for us. We took his advice and I'm glad we did. The festival was a great way to get into the holiday spirit - and only a $10 per car fee, which I believe goes to charity. When we returned to the hotel, we thanked Jamaul for the suggestion and while I was talking with him, two other ladies came in raving about the Festival that Jamaul had suggested! Before I said goodnight to him, Jamaul said that if we wanted to try a local place for brunch, we should go to Early Bird Diner. We did and were not disappointed.
The hotel is located just at exit 209 on I-26. Travel time to downtown Charleston is about 20-25 minutes.
