“Good place to sleep”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2006

We needed a place to sleep after a long day ih Charleston before heading north. These folks gave us two perfectly comfortable adjoining rooms (for the five of us) and got them cleaned and ready early, so we could leave our luggage before heading out to sightsee. No problems with this hotel, and they went out of their way to let us in early.

“What color WAS the carpet, exactly?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2006

These nice people gave us a room for 1 night, when we decided to stay an extra day, and needed a pet-friendly motel.

The lobby is beautiful, an added bonus was a computer with internet access for guest use!
The continental breakfast was satisfying, with several choices.

The room, however, was slightly worse than disgusting. The smell of smoke nearly knocked us down, and the carpet in the two rooms my family used was, literally, black.
There was one spot where it looked like cleaner had been (accidentally?) spilled, and you could see the carpet had originally been green.

The bathroom was extremely small, almost comical, but the shower was nice and clean.

“Clean, convenient alternative to Historic District”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2006

This motel was a little difficult to locate in rush hour traffic so be sure to get printed directions on-line and watch street names carefully. The directions in the 2005 directory were incorrect. The motel is at 7435 Northside Dr. It was very clean and staff was extremely helpful. It is an easy trip on the #26 to get to the Historic District. Follow the 26E to its very end which puts you on Meeting Street a few blocks from the Visitor Centre (on your right). This motel is a clean and comfortable alternative to the high prices in the Historic District. We stayed here prior to taking a cruise from the Charleston Pier. It takes about 1/2 hour to get to Washington Street where the line of cars is waiting to get into the enclosed parking facilities for the cruise line. Very well organized operation.

“what a drop off in less then a year”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2005

The sign out front calls it a 2004 Sleep Inn of the year. If that is the case either the standards for choosing them is very low or it has gone down hill quite a lot. After this past week I am pretty sure it is the latter.

When calling to make the reservation I think I spent more time being asked to please hold over and over then I did actually talking to someone.
The real big issue I had happened on the day after I checked in. We left the room at 10 am and got back at 9 pm during this entire time housekeeping never made it to the room even though they were down the hall when we left that morning. The front desk clerk said she was sorry about it but all she could do was give me the towels and sheets and I could change it myself.Because there was no one available to fix the problem.
This is when I made a VERY GROSS discovery. Seems they hadn't really picked up after the last guest checked out because I found a used drink cup and lid under the side of the bed.
When I checked out the managers attitude about it was very lackadasical. her response to all the issues were we gave you a discount for the problem.Money was not the issue hygene was. That and she forgot the most important thing to sat : I am Sorry.

“Clean, Reasonable, Close to Charleston”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2004

I found this to be a small, quiet hotel just off the Interstate, not far from Charleston and some of the plantations. We got the last available room on a Saturday night, but the cheerful desk clerk still gave us a good rate. (I always make sure to ask for the best rate.) Everything was sparkling clean, and the only wear I saw consisted of some marks on the wall inside the door to our room (probably from the luggage cart), and some discoloration on the carpet where somebody had spilled something. This is the second Sleep Inn I have stayed at, and I love the floor plan of their rooms. It's so practical! You know how some hotel bathrooms are so tiny that there is barely enough room to get in and close the door? Sleep Inn uses a pocket door on the bathroom so it just slides out of the way! Brilliant! There is no bathtub, but I have never taken a bath at a hotel anyway. Instead, there is a spacious, walk-in shower stall with no creepy shower curtain to contend with! The breakfast bar had a nice surprise with make-your-own waffles. You just pour a pre-measured cup of batter into a waffle iron and flip it over. It’s simple, foolproof, and it actually takes less time than toasting a bagel. And while I’m on the subject of food, did I mention the fresh baked cookies at check in? This hotel was a pleasant surprise and deserves the awards it has received. I highly recommend it.
