We used this hotel as our stopover point prior to leaving the next day on a Carnival cruise departing from Charleston. The hotel location is approximately a 15 to 20 minute easy drive to the port on a Saturday morning.
My wife and I were very impressed with the hotel. The smoke free facility is very clean and the staff friendly & helpful. Our room was large with a comfortable bed. My wife was impressed with the bathroom lighting and complimentary toilet items. The expanded "free" breakfast should satisfy most guests. Since the hotel is located off the main traffic area and somewhat remote, the rooms were quiet.
The adjoining Charleston University campus offered us an opportunity to stretch our legs. It is our understanding that the University cafeteria is open to the public for those who do not want to drive for dining.
Fast food restaurants are located about a mile from the hotel. National chain family style restaurants are about 3 -4 miles away.
Bottom line, we had an enjoyable stay at the Wingate and would go back there again.

We stayed a couple of nights in this hotel in January, 2012. It appeared to be quite new. The beds were exceptionally comfortable and the linens high end. Free WIFI and a free spectacular hot breakfast. It's a hike to downtown but if you have any business in North Charleston area, this is a perfect place to stay. Customer service shines. Great value.

Our property is 3 1/2 years new and I'll have to be honest it still looks like it was opened last week ;) Each department strives for every guest to be 100% satisfied. Downtown can be a 20-30 minute drive, depending on traffic. We are only minutes away from many of the industrial parks in North Charleston so we currently have a lot of business travelers. “Very nice hotel”
We were looking for a hotel near our son, daughter -in-law and grandchildren who are stationed at the Navel Weapon Station in Goose Creek. the hotel was very nice, clean and the staff courteous. The breakfast offered lots of selection, and the fitness room/hot tub were great. We got a great deal by making our reservation through Booking.com.
Only wish they allowed pets.

I found this hotel just outside of charleston--its kind of north charleston. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. I got a great rate when I booked for two days and they continued that rate for a third night for me. The customer service is friendly and helpful. Their breakfast is very comprehensive. I'd stay here again. Thanks for a great stay.
Room Tip: Their deluxe king rooms are great with a separate sitting area which is quiet big.

My wife and I stayed here the first weekend in October 2011. We used Priceline and we got a king size bed. Our room was fantastic and the hotel is close to everything. The free breakfast in the morning was good and the hotel staff were very professional. If you are visiting the Charleston area this is a must stay.
Room Tip: rooms in the front are very quiet
