“Beware of damage charges”

Soon after entering our very outdated room we discovered an item was damaged. We immediately left the room and reported the damage to the front desk. We asked to see another room and then transferred. It was a much larger and nicer room. We then stayed through the weekend. At check out we were told everything was good and no additional charges. A few days after we returned home we found they had charged us for the damage we reported in the first room. The charge was entered several hours after we had left, by the same person who had told us no additional charges at check out!!! After several calls we have still not received a refund.

We also had an issue with the pool not being covered. The video on their website clearly stated that it was covered during the cooler months. If we had known that we would have made reservations somewhere else.

We also found out that the hotel does not own all the rooms, they are sold to outside owners. The best and most caring owners have the nicest rooms, so ask for those rooms or just book the room through the owner.

My dispute is with the hotel management and not with the room owners. I would really like to hear if anyone else had similar problems.

Room Tip: The hotel does not own all the rooms, they are sold to outside owners. The best and most caring owne...

“Good stay, Resonable $$”

For the Money it's a good choice. The staff is friendly. Most of the ammenities are working. Only problem I have ever had is the pools and jacuzzi's are subject to homeowners discretion. May or may not be working. The outside pool covering was not up but advertised on the website so could not swim in Dec. Again homeowners decision. Lokks like they are doing some upgrades to the propery so the place is looking better. The free breakfast is......well you can decide.. It is free!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the north side. Better view and sunrise.

I have stayed at the Palace several times. We did go somewhere else last year but was very sorry we traveled up North Myrtle. Never again. The Palace Resort is the best! Clean and friendly employees. Good free hot breakfast! Good mattress for good sleep.

Room Tip: don't know what side it is but it is on the even side rooms! we were on the odd side, room 513...

“Nice but needs updateing”

I have stayed at this hotel several times now with my family. It does need updateing but the staff is friendly. I did have something happen this year I was not happy with, we put a " DO NOT DISTURB " sign that I carry with me, because I travel for business three weeks out of the month, on our door and about the second day we were there that week we came back unexpectedly and met a maid out of breath at the elevator. We then found our door open, I reported this to the management and it took them three days to tell me the last person that used a card to enter the room was the maid. I was not givin any reason for her coming in and was not told of any actions being taken. It was just shrugged off. After seeing other reviews on here about pleople looseing there belongings in their rooms I will probly not stay again.

“Really Nice Stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2011

Me and my wife had a pretty good stay at The Palace. For me, this is the third time that I've stayed here. The Palace isn't the best hotel on Myrtle Beach, but it's definately NOT the worst either. Ten years ago The Palace was one of the more nicer places to stay at Myrtle Beach, but in my opinion the hotel looks to be trapped in time since then. Ownership has probably had a tough time fighting heavy competition from the newly constructed mega resorts down the road as well as the lingering downturn caused by The Great Recession. Overall, The Palace is in need of some cosmetic improvements in order to bring the resort forward into this decade. I'm not 100% sure, but it looks like the rooms in The Palace are individually owned, and those owners are represented by an HOA. In otherwords, not all rooms are created equal. Personally, I've never stayed in a bad room at The Palace. As for our recent trip, our studio-sized room with a full kitchen was newly renovated with all new furniture. The vanity in the bathroom was brand new, and all the appliances including the TV were all modern. Maybe I'm just lucky, who knows. There is no bad view of the beach at The Palace because of the way the hotel is designed. For all the small short comings this place has it didn't stop bystanders on the beach from stopping to get a closer look at the hotel's tower-like structure which is good because that means that this place could still be a relevant fixture at Myrtle Beach (ownership SHOULD take note!). Don't get me wrong, The Palace is still a decent place to stay. It has good management, and the staff appears to care about their jobs. The hotel is clean and maintenance makes the best with what they have to work with. The free breakfast is nice, it's definately NOT prison food, and the tall lady serving the food is a really good person. The daily rates are reasonable, and the city of Myrtle Beach is really starting to clean up and move forward (the beaches have come a long way). I would consider The Palace next year when I visit, but only as a second to third option. Overall, I was pretty satisfied with our stay.

Room Tip: Rooms are individually owned. Don't hesitate to ask for a better unit.
