Springmaid Beach resort, originally built to serve employees of SpringMaid Mills, has aged poorly. It has needed renovations for some time and they are finally being done.
Restaurant is not the greatest, but there are dozens of good quality restaurants nearby.

Room lacked working areas and lighting. Other Items missing were: TV guide, clock, a lamp for the table. and just 1 chair.

NO HOT WATER...IN JANUARY. Need I say more? Well, I guess I have to since there's a 50 character minimum for this review apparently. Thank goodness we were only staying for one night. My husband suffered through the freezing shower, but I wasn't about to. Our door wouldn't shut without shoving it, making a loud bang which I'm certain disturbed our neighbors at night, but we didn't have much choice if we wanted to lock it. There was a convention going on that weekend and in the cafe they had one person working--he was the cook, the waiter, the check out person...how crazy is that? Not only that, but he wasn't that friendly either. All that being said, it was a nice lay-out with pools (too cold to try them out). But with no hot water, we wouldn't be confident to book this place again. And at least we got a last minute deal of only $48 for the night.

We have stayed @ Springmaid twice in the last year. July 2011 and Dec 2011-Jan 2012 for New Year. Our first visit left a little to be desired in reference to the outdated room in the Palmetto building, but they did put us in a balcony room with a fantastic view!!!! For New Year's we stayed in the Live Oaks building, nicer room, decent view, flat screen, full size frig and micro (which we never used). The property shows wear & tear, but it's still a good value for a relaxing trip to the beach. We used to live in Myrtle when the AF base was open and Springmaid is located right across from the old base entrance...great location! We actually took the time to walk the pier this past trip (free if a guest), but have never eatin in Marlin's. Back in July 2011, breakfast was included in our room rate, but when we walked in....all the noise and kids.....we left, went up the street to the brand new Waffle House! Of which we ate there TWICE this last visit!:) Love the beach location of this resort. We will def stay again I'm sure.
