My Husband and I took a last minute, unplanned trip to MB. Stumbled upon this place by accident and what a pleasant suprise! The oceanfront suite was very clean & comfortable. View was spectacular & staff was great. I'm usually very picky and easily grossed out by hotels but I was very comfortable here.loved it. Can'twait to go back...maybe this weekend!

“Our stay at the Meridian”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My wife and I visited Myrtle Beach 1/14/2011 not sure where we would stay. At the SC rest area the attendant told us the Meridian had a special rate of $49 for ocean front King bed., no smoking. I decided to give it a try, We were in room 1001

pros, clean room, GREAT view of beach, saw a beautiful sunrise, staff friendly, 50 bucks ocean front king

cons, bed not as comfortable as I would like (although my wife slept well), older decor, poor lighting in room, small Non HD TV.

We were just there for one night. Would not have wanted a week.

“Unit 1102, Couldn't get any worse”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

people found this review helpful

This was the first time staying at Meridian Plaza. I booked 1102 through ----.
I have never had any problems with vrbo property until this unit.
I arrived on Saturday, September 3rd. Upon arrival, I was disappointed that this unit is not at all as described. There is nothing "new" about this unit. The furniture is old and used and it looks like it was purchased from a thrift store. The sofa was stained and had a cigarette burn on it, the coffee table had water stains on it, the furniture was covered in dust, the ceiling and vents covered in mold and mildew, and the dishes placed back in the cabinet dirty. We had to go out and buy paper plates and cups. I called the owner and explained the unit was dirty and she replied "so what seems to be the problem?" The next day, a man knocked on the door holding a bottle of dish washing detergent and said he was told to come by and drop it off so we could wash the dirty dishes. There was supposed to be detergent in the unit for washing and there was none to be found which tells me the cleaning company did not wash them before I arrived.
There are two beds in the unit. Very uncomfortable, full-size beds. The ceiling has buckled from damage and the furniture in the bedroom has water damage. The owner said if there was any problem to contact the cleaning company she hires. I contacted them and no one ever answered the phone or returned my calls. Since this unit is not managed by the Meridian, they said we were on our own. They could not place us in a different unit or do anything for us.
THESE UNITS ARE INDIVIDUALLY OWNED. If you do not go through Meridian, they will not do anything for you. They would not even give me change for a dollar to wash clothes. They will tell you, “You are on your own.”
By the second day, my husband and I were sick from breathing the mold coming out of the vents. The bathroom ceiling was covered in mold and mildew and eventually fell in. I went downstairs and stated to the front desk clerk that I understood they couldn't help us since I did not rent through them but explained there was a serious problem. They said they were not allowed in the unit and for me to call the owner. She didn't answer nor did the cleaning company she said to call if I needed anything. I left a message on both voice mails. No response. I told Meridian I called and couldn't get a response and they sent up a plumber. They took pictures of the unit because it was in bad shape and they didn't want the owner to blame them for damage. I told them that I didn't want to be responsible for them being in the unit. The maintenance person told me if the owner gave me any problems to contact the manager. I ended up having to call the manager once the owner started threatening me and the manager would not call me back. We were “on our own.”
I was informed by the Meridian that this unit was one of the worst units in the building. It is not cleaned properly nor is it maintained like the other units in this building. My sister was in the area and had stayed at the Meridian 3 times in the past. She stopped by to look at 1102 and stated this unit did not compare to the units she had stayed in during her past stays.
After returning home, the owner told me she would return my deposit. She didn't. I emailed her a second time and she stated again "it's in the mail." I informed her that her cleaning company did not clean the unit before I arrived and she stated she would return my deposit plus the cleaning fee.
I posted a review of her property two weeks after my stay. She then called and left me a voice mail and threatened to sue me unless I removed my review. Because I left a bad review she wouldn't give me my deposit back. I have contacted vrbo to report her threatening phone call and to inform them this owner does not return deposits.
This is the worse experience I have ever been through with rental property.
I did ask Meridian if the unit was cleaned before I arrived. They said the cleaning company walked in, stayed 5-10 minutes, and then left. Maybe they had time to change the sheets but I found hair on the pillow cases. I asked the owner if she had seen her property recently to see if the cleaning company was doing their job properly and to look for damage, she told me she hadn't been there in six months. The only thing she knows about her property is what this company tells her.

If there are great looking units at Meridian, I didn't get to enjoy one of them. No customer service and threats made by the owner of the unit. I wouldn't go back for that. And it makes me wonder if she has threatened people in the past stating they would not get their deposit back and possibly get sued for leaving negative feedback.
I am posting pictures of the dirty dishes I found in the cabinet, the dirty sofa, the mold and mildew on the vents and the ceiling, and the ceiling once it fell. The day I left this unit, the ceiling was still covered with a plastic bag. The Meridian stated they would have to get someone to get drywall repair.

“The Meridian plaza”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2011

people found this review helpful

Ah, the Meridian Plaza
After our family vacation in August 2011, all I can say is this.
The hotel seems to have gotten a makeover not too long ago. The rooms are clean; the lobby is a bit awkward. When you go to check in the lobby has two doors. One is right in front of a column which makes it a bit uncomfortable to open the door being that you have to pull instead of push.
Housekeeping was on time, only thing; our group was a party of 6 and trying to get extra towels was like pulling teeth. I never bothered asking the front desk due to the fact that every time we walked by he was always texting on his cell phone.
Bedding, the beds are hard and the sofa bed was a bit grimy. The comforters are terrible. I recommend you bring your own bedding. I had to run out to Walmart and purchase a comforter because we refused to use the comforter in the room. It was rough and just didn’t seem clean.
The location of the hotel and the beach are great, being that it’s at the Northern end of the beach makes it great for families. The pools were semi-clean, I guess it’s as good as it’s going to get, being that people don’t follow rules and prefer not to shower before entering the pool. They rather rinse off the sand and beach water in the pool its self.
Parking was a bit of a hassle, I’m used to parking on-site when staying in hotels. Not here, parking is across the street.
If you’re a smoker, look somewhere else. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the hotel, including balconies. We didn’t mind, being that nobody in our group smokes.
Would I stay at The Meridian Plaza again? Yes I would, but I prefer a hotel with a fitness center.

Room Tip: Book early
