“Elvis has LEFT the building!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We came to see the New Years show and party- and talked with a man named Ken one evening when we made reservations. We had seen that there was a nice new years eve party planned and that there was an Elvis impersonator as the emcee. We booked the room, and asked about the party. We were told to just let them know at check in and they would give us the tickets. We arrived after driving many hours to be told there were no tickets available. Inexcusable.

We took the kids to the arcade room-the only games without a "out of order" sign on them were a pinball machine and one of those claw prize grabber machines. We tried the claw machine and the machine would move the claw, but when the claw went down it stayed closed and could not grab any prize. Time for an upgrade.
We noticed that the dunes had a lot of honking cars all day waiting for their valet servers. I would recommend the ocean front rooms.
Would not recommend parking deck for anyone with a vehicle any larger than a minivan. Very low clearance, our vehicle barely made it through.
Would suggest a map of the property and also a listing in the elevators of the ice machines, the laundry, the restaurant, etc-the signage is poor.
Beds were decent, the room was clean. Our maid service was good. But this day and time, I expect to see more than this place offers-there are too many hotels that offer more for the same price or less.

Room Tip: side view rooms are very noisy. parking deck very low clearance. arcade needs an overhaul.

I would like to start by thanking you for staying at the Beach Colony Resort. I would also like to apologize for the mishap with the New Years Eve party. This was our first year doing a New Years Eve party and the turn out was amazing and unexpected. We actually ended up seating nearly145 people. That being said, I did give you a 20% discount on your stay for the issue and I offered a discount on a future stay. We also tried to contact you several times throughout the day before party to let you know that we could accommodate you. Because of the outstanding response and excellent feedback we received on this event, this is something we may continue to do year after year. Again I do apologize for the inconvenience as it was a learning experience for us all. Thanks again and I hope you have a wonderful and prosperous New Year!

My family and i stayed at the Beach Colony Resort December25-28,2011 and i must say after reading unfavorable reviews i was kind of hesitant after i had already booked. I'm a travel agent so i like to check out property before i send a client. I was in the 2 bedroom/2 baths oceanview condo on the nineth floor (916) I was presently surprised. Very nicely decorated with all the appliances we have at home. Will be staying again.

Room Tip: Ask for room 916, 2 bedroom/2bath if you have more than 2 children.

“Great Vacation Spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

My stay at the Beach Colony Resort was great. The rooms were very clean and the decor was appropriate for the location. Our room was a studio layout and it included a full kitchen. The location was great, and the staff were friendly. The breakfast was a traditional buffet, but there were waiters and waitresses to serve you drinks. I would definitely go again.

“Ok place in the winter but avoid in the summer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

I stayed here for a leisure convention with a tour group and this hotel was bearable, but not great. The elevators shake whenever you ride them (the elevators are quick) and on the first night I was scared to death so much that I prayed that I would make it up safely to the room(I ended up making it safely). We were on the 12th floor and it was an average view. I was in a 2 bedroom oceanview condo, and beware, each unit's decor is totally different. Also, DNR bans people in all Myrtle Beach hotels in the winter from going on the balconies because the sea gulls try to feed and make nests near the hotels. I was told the hotel is 24 years old and I betted that it was 25+ years old. Its age showed a lot, there was wear and tear but the rooms were clean. The breakfast was the standard continental breakfast fare and beware the quality of the pancakes, waffles, etc. are average. Also, in the summer, around 70 percent of the fellow guests tend to be rude and obnoxious (some of them drink alcohol or smoke near the swimming pools and areas where kids are around). Do not stay here in the peak seasons because this hotel is not worth the cost at $180+/night but in the winter the value is better when the rates go down to $60+//night this hotel is bearable.

Room Tip: Try to stay oceanfront if you can afford it because the oceanview rooms view is not good because it...

I would like to thank you for staying at Beach Colony Resort and taking the time to review our property. There are a couple items I would like to clarify in your review and I'll go in order. First DNR (Department of Natural Resources http://www.dnr.sc.gov/regulations.html ) does not have any rules banning use of the balconies in the winter. All guests are permitted on the balconies any time of year and any time they wish to enjoy the beautiful views and soothing sounds of the ocean waves. The section of the building you were in was actually opened in 1996 just 15 years ago. The oceanfront building was built first. The building you were in was actually built years later even though they are connected. We do not offer a continental breakfast we have a breakfast buffet in our restaurant daily (currently for $6.95). In the summer months we do have a pool bar that serves alcohol. We find most guests enjoy the opportunity to have a cold cocktail while relaxing near the pool in the hot sun. The majority of our guests are pleasant and enjoy themselves while visiting Beach Colony Resort. I am sorry for any bad experience you may have had while staying at Beach Colony. Please contact Robert Dowd or Jack Bledsoe if you would like to discuss your stay at 800-222-2141. Thank you!
