Every year a group of seven families takes a week long camping vacation together. We have been to Sandusky, Pigeon Forge, Lake George (twice) & Connecticut and this was our first time to Myrtle Beach. The organizer for the group usually picks more expensive campgrounds that have a lot of activities for the kids in the group. Our first interaction with the girl at the desk was NOT a good one. We walked up & she said "Last Name". After typing for a minute, her next statement was.."Your balance due is $xxx.xx". My husband let her know very quickly, we had CHOSEN to spend our money there and a comment like "Welcome to Pirateland, how was your trip?" would have been more appropriate. Every time we dealt with the people up front (including the concierge) it was a PAINFUL experience. After being spoiled with KOAs that run $35-$45 a night we were disappointed with our $61 a night campground. The sites were so small if we stood at the edge of our awning, we could touch the slide on the camper next to us. The bathrooms were dirty & not well maintained, the pool area had NO shade at all & everything including paddleboats on their own lake came at a price. At the beach they have small umbrellas which the lifeguard told us cost $20 A DAY to rent! One family came in two days later than the rest & was renting a vacation cabin for the week. They arrived at the campground prior to check in time but figured they would come to our campsites to wait until they could check-in. THEY CHARGED THEM a $2.00 PER PERSON visitor fee for the few hours they would be at our site even thought they were paying over $1100 to stay for the week!!! On the flip side, the Lazy River was nice if you waited till about 8pm to go & the lower level workers (Gate, Grass Cutter and Trash Hauler) were very friendly & helpful....go figure. Based on our experience, we will NEVER go back to Pirateland. There are too many other campgrounds to choose from.
Room Tip: Sites toward the beach have cement pad & covered pavilion at each site

Thank you for your recent review. We strive to provide great customer service so we are sorry to hear your interaction with office employees was a bad experience. We expect all employees to provide extraordinary service so guests have a great time and want to return. Employees of ALL departments are essential parts of the team and park operation, are held to the same standards, and are considered to be on the same “level”. The park, being oceanfront, sits on prime real estate. Our campsite and rental rates, visitor fees, mini-golf and paddle boat fees, and campsite sizes are comparable with other area parks. We are sorry we did not meet your expectations. We hope you and the other families will still return to Myrtle Beach!
