Sentenced to a spell in tacky Myrtle Beach for a meeting, we stayed at the conference hotel. We found this Marriott to be very nice, handsomely appointed, spotlessly clean, with aggressively pleasant staff. The conference room rate, while high, seemed reasonable enough, given the hotel facilities. The view from our room was lovely, the grounds and facilities were spectacular. What's not to like? The dang nickel-and-diming common to higher-end hotels. Oh, you want breakfast? That'll be $10 and up. Oh, you want Internet? Well, that'll be another $20. Parking? Ha! We gotcha- for another $10. Good thing you have your own cell phone, because all phone calls from your room are $2.
There was a hand outstretched at every turn, and I, for one, find that tiresome. If they need to add $30 to the room rate, do it, but quit shaking me down for every little thing. If Hampton can provide me with a nice room, broadband included, and throw a bagel in on the deal, why can't Marriott, for goodness' sake?
