“Marriott le Magnifique- at a price.”

Sentenced to a spell in tacky Myrtle Beach for a meeting, we stayed at the conference hotel. We found this Marriott to be very nice, handsomely appointed, spotlessly clean, with aggressively pleasant staff. The conference room rate, while high, seemed reasonable enough, given the hotel facilities. The view from our room was lovely, the grounds and facilities were spectacular. What's not to like? The dang nickel-and-diming common to higher-end hotels. Oh, you want breakfast? That'll be $10 and up. Oh, you want Internet? Well, that'll be another $20. Parking? Ha! We gotcha- for another $10. Good thing you have your own cell phone, because all phone calls from your room are $2.

There was a hand outstretched at every turn, and I, for one, find that tiresome. If they need to add $30 to the room rate, do it, but quit shaking me down for every little thing. If Hampton can provide me with a nice room, broadband included, and throw a bagel in on the deal, why can't Marriott, for goodness' sake?

“Outstanding Service! Truly the best hotel in Myrtle Beach.”

I recently completed an extended stay at the Marriott Grande Dunes and I couldn't have been happier with my experience. I stayed at the hotel for about nine weeks during a relocation to the Myrtle Beach area and my only regret is that I can't afford to move into the hotel permanently! The rooms were clean and the maid service met all of my requests (including extra coffee for those nights I was forced to stay up late and work). The front desk staff was very professional and courteous. The concierge was helpful in getting me acclimated to my new hometown and provided me with great suggestions for dining as well as tips for where to complete everyday tasks such as getting a money order. The room service staff was gracious and very quick with all of my room service orders (if you are a dessert fan, you have to try the banana mango Napoleon). In case it isnt already obvious, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to the MB area; you won't be disappointed. To Blakely, Kelsey, Ben, Jim, Tony and the rest of the staff, thank you all very much for making my transition to MB easy and enjoyable.
Signed, your extended guest in Room 921.

“Great place for a work conference”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

My husband and I stayed here for 5 days in October for his work conference. The property is great! It really is picture perfect! The location is nice if you are wanting away from the hustle and bustle of a tourist location, but if you want to do anything outside of the property you need to rent a car because their isn't anything around other than timeshares. Because this was so close to our anniversary the staff bumped us to an oceanview room at no additional cost. It was gorgeous! I would stay here again, but I would like to compare features to other hotels in the area.

Pros:
-Staff was friendly and very accommodating
-Oceanview room view is incredible
-Conference food was good
-Steps from the beach

Cons:
-Room is outdated, but with the view and the beach just steps away I was never in the room.

Room Tip: The corner oceanview room is great! You get a full balcony with a small table and chairs on one side...

“Best in the area”

Having stayed in several Sands properties, the Sheraton and a few of the condotels, this is now our hotel of choice in the Myrtle Beach area. Very comfortable beds, great service all round from e.g. Kelsey at the front desk, Chris the bartender and even the night porter on two call outs.

Only quibbles are the addition of a parking charge at $10 per night ($18 for valet parking) to an already pretty expensive room rate, plus the offering of golf packages which is a kind of do it yourself production, as the concierge will only get you standard rates at the various golf courses (we approached many golf courses ourselves, special mention to Rivers Edge giving us a locals rate of $39 including cart and taxes, for a great golf course).

Must also mention that Dunes Golf Club were pretty ridiculous, refusing us a walk ons, advising us to go back to the Marriott and get them to call the club to arrange our golf - we were already in the pro shop! Any practical business savvy person would have said, OK this is our official policy, but now that you are here (having travelled 3,000 miles to the area), why don't we do this for you. Sour taste and a golf club off our rota for future visits.

No fault of the Marriott though, and we will hopefully be back within the year. One other message for American golfers, if you are a fourball and a two ball is waiting on every shot behind you, there is no disgrace in calling them through (even if you feel you are being held up yourself, that's not the point, it's basic golf etiquette). On one day we were first out, as a threeball and got around in 2 hours twenty minutes, and that was not rushing. But unfortunately if we were in the middle of the bunch, that became 4 1/2 - 5 hours.

Room Tip: An oceanfront room is probably best, to relax to the sounds of the ocean, but for the extra money mu...
