“Great Value, Well-located, and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2010

We were on our way to Myrtle Beach for an eight day stay. I write reviews for tripadvisor so that other travelers with intellectual values will investigate where they are going; therefore, giving them a better understanding of ones perspective from a business and individual perspective. Making reservations was a breeze. Upon arrival, even though we arrived in the later part of the evening, the front desk clerk was very helpful. We traveled with an eight pound Yorkie dog and the desk clerk was glad to help us with figuring out which room would be the best for us. We ended up in a handicapped room that was right by the side door where we could go in and out easily. The first thing we do when entering into a room is to check for bedbugs. We checked the bed and found NO bedbugs! I would advise all travelers before doing anything else; they should ALWAYS check a motel/hotel room for bedbugs. If you don’t then shame on you! If you find bedbugs then you should go immediately to the front desk and report them and ask for another room. This goes for ANYWHERE that you stay. Don’t put your luggage on the bed, put your belongings in the bathtub or shower until you have a chance to check for the bedbugs. Bedbugs are becoming a national infestation; therefore, when visiting ANY place other than your home… INVESTIGATE!!!!! The bed was wonderful, soft, clean, and we had a very restful night. We did not notice any noise from planes or people. The bathroom was handicap accessible and even though neither of us is handicapped all things functioned well. The apartment size refrigerator was clean and functioned well. The coffee pot! It is not that you are missing the pot it is that you have to put a disposable cup, that is provided, in the slot where a normal coffee pot would go. The coffee maker is a one cup serving! If you have any questions ask the front desk clerk as they are very happy to assist you and answer any questions that you may have. We had to ask for a hair dryer as there was not one provided in the room and we took it back to the front desk at checkout. The outside pool was clean; however, the patio furniture could use some updating. There was an iron and ironing board; however, we did not use them. The TV worked very well. We called front desk for wake-up call and received the wake-up call as planned. The breakfast buffet is GREAT! I woke up, half asleep and poured milk in the waffle maker. The staff was right there laughing with me and helped me to clean up the mess that I had made. The staff showed me what I needed to do to make the waffle and boy-oh-boy that waffle was sooooo good! The breakfast buffet had fresh fruit, cereal, milk, coffee, orange juice, pastries, hard boiled eggs, waffle maker, and a very clean area to sit down and eat. I cannot express enough how HELPFUL, POLITE, and PERSONABLE the staff is at this Microtel! You know, they are people just like us out there putting forth their best effort in completing their position functions. GREAT JOB! In closing, I would recommend this Microtel to any visitor traveling to the Myrtle Beach SC area.

“don't stay at the bedbug inn”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2010

This was the worst hotel I have ever been to. The front desk agents were all rude. They have metal cribs for infants which is really safe huh. We asked to leave and get our money back the hotel refused and they threatned to call the cops because we were complaining about the room. Three other couples were complaining about how unclean the hotel was. the mattress had bedbugs in it and they were allowing people to smoke in the elevators. They even told us when we checked in that they gave us in upgrade I hate to think about what we had before. We were so sick of this place we just left our money with them and went to another hotel. Never stay at this place it was horrible.

“Elevator FELL several times! Dirty, crack hotel. Dangerous.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

There is a rusty trailer at the back of this hotel! Upon checkin (@ 150/night!!), got put in handicapped room (which is big) and went to take a shower. The shower handle did not stay in its holder. The curtain rod is at an angle, so the curtain slowly opened and I was left with a flood. Maintenance guy said he would put a clamp on it. We switched rooms instead. Blankets had someone's hair on it. Elevator had a sign on it saying no more than 5 people on elevator because you would get stuck! We (3 people of normal weight) got in and went to third floor and the elevator FELL a foot and the "safety" caught it!! The employees weren't phased by this. Other people experienced the same thing. One of us had bad knees, so the jolt ruined the rest of his trip and he couldn't walk up the stairs to third floor. The floor in front of the elevator was rickety. (like you could fall through) We demanded a refund so we could leave and go somewhere else and the hotel staff (and manager) were unwilling to do anything. The clientel is trash.
Pool was cloudy with nastiness and alcoholic beverages were everywhere.
When checking into the other hotel (Country Inn about a mile away), they referred to Microtel as the crack hotel.
Myrtle Beach used to be referred to as the "Red-Neck Riviera", but the clientel now is more african american.

“People will find anything to complain about”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2010

I got placed in this hotel through Priceline and after reading reviews I was very nervous about going here. It was myself and my brother in a room with double beds. When we walked into the hotel the front desk staff was so friendly and provided anything we needed. We ended up getting a smoking room even though neither of us are smokers but the room was clean, I could tell by the light clorox smell of the sheets and there was absolutely no hair in out towels, sheets, bathroom, etc like other reviewers have mentioned. I think that people confuse older and budget with dirty. We had a wonderful time at Myrtle Beach and the hotel was right next to the outlets so a great time shopping as well. I would give this hotel a chance if I were you. It's a short 10 minute drive to the beach, a reasonable price, and was clean. It provided everything you need for a stay at the beach, I mean you're only there to sleep and shower right? If you go to the beach to stay in your room you're crazy!! The breakfast was good, mostly cold foods, but waffles as well. The only complaint I had was the walls were slightly thin and I could hear the neighbors talking (sounded like mumbling don't worry, they wont hear what youre actually saying).

Go for it! I would definitely stay here again.

“Great Hotel For A Great Price!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

Our stay at Microtel was EXCELLENT! Our room was VERY spacious and and the beds were super comfortable! The staff was super friendly and helpful at all times. The complimentary breakfast was hot, fresh, and tasty. The hotel is a short walk/drive across the street from the beach outlets-which is a PLUS for the ones who like to shop ;-). Although the hotel was not an oceanfront hotel like we planned to have, however, it is in a great location and only a SHORT drive away from the beach, restaurants, mall, and attractions with no worries PLUS for a cheaper price! My friends and I have decided to use Microtel as our main hotel for each beach trip we make! You will definitely not be disappointed! =]
