We stayed here in June of 2011, and previously in May of 2009. Both times the facilities were great - we love all the pools, lazy rivers, the parking garage across the street is convenient, and we like being close to Broadway at the Beach. Check in was great, the people at the front desk were amazingly helpful, but both times we have had issues with maintenance and housekeeping.
We stayed in the Dominican in 2009 and had issues with a leaking refrigerator - I failed to mention this in my previous review because it eventually fixed itself, so it didn't sour the whole trip. One night around 11, we came in from the balcony and there was water all over the floor in front of it. We called that night and they said they would send someone the next day. It never happened. Luckily that problem fixed itself after two days of having towels on the floor in the middle of the kitchen, never did figure out the cause.
Now onto our trip this summer. We stayed in a 3-bedroom condo on the 11th floor of the Cayman tower. The room was great, and the view was amazing. It was a great size, and we had plenty of room. We had issues with the toilet in the master bath from day one - just seemed to run slow, that sort of thing. Well, on day three, it finally overflowed all over the bathroom floor around 2 in the afternoon. Called the front desk, said they would send maintenance up. He came up about 30 mins later - not too bad for that size of a resort - and fixed the problem, and radioed to housekeeping to send someone to clean up the mess. After 45 mins, I called the front desk again because housekeeping never came. She said she would send someone up. 30 mins later, housekeeping finally came up to clean up the mess. I was in the process of getting my 1-year-old son up for a nap so I didn't pay attention to what all she did, but she came in and mopped, and after she left, I noticed she took the dirty mop head off and LEFT IT ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER. Seriously? Like I want a mop head full of toilet water on the kitchen counter. Good thing I had packed a container of clorox wipes!
On our last day, we ran out of toilet paper - partially our fault, we declined housekeeping the day before because we were in the room when she came by, and I didn't realize we were that low or I would've grabbed a few extra rolls. Called downstairs at 7:30am for two rolls (one for each bathroom), front desk promised to send someone up. By 8am, nothing. Called down again, the woman working the front desk apologized but then said it wasn't her fault because she wasn't the one who answered the call the first time. I personally don't care whose fault it was, just send someone up with toilet paper. They finally arrived around 8:30 with one roll of toilet paper for two bathrooms. I told her I guess we'll just use kleenex in the other bathroom, and they'll end up with another toilet problem again. She came back with another roll 20 mins later.
We are returning to Myrtle Beach at the end of April, but we have booked another resort. Going to try something different this time. It's a shame too, because I loved the Caribbean's facilities, but the service left a bad impression. I shouldn't have to waste a beautiful afternoon inside waiting for housekeeping or be stressed out over toilet paper on my vacation.
