“Conrad would not be pleased”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I have stayed in many Hilton properties I am also a Hilton HHonors member. I will start with the parking garage. My rental car is an economy 2 door Aveo the smallest car I have ever driven. The stalls are so small with concrete pillars on each side in most cases that I have to jockey the car around just to squeeze this little car in to a stall. You can see the scrapes on the concrete were people have bumped into the pillars. The hotel bar is empty most all the time because the bartender Christen I think is her name does not socialize with customers. She almost seems like she is going out of her way not to talk to customers. Bartending is not for the meek. A friend of mine wanted to use the business center to print out his airline boarding pass. He was told he could not use the center because he was staying at Royal Palms which is connected to the Hilton and owned by the Hilton. Hilton is usally customer friendly. That is not the case at this property.

Room Tip: If you have a car bigger than a bug stay at another property. If you do not have a car stay on the h...

Thank you for taking the time to post this review about our hotel. I am sorry for your inconveniences with the parking garage and your bartender’s service. One note I did want to make is that Hilton does not own Royale Palms, each unit is individually owned. Our business center is accessible 24 hours a day with a Hilton room key, which your friend may not have had if he was not a Hilton guest. Please contact me at Eugene.silvestri@hilton.com or 843-692-3101, so I may address your concerns.

“A little disappointed for a Hilton property!”

I stayed here during a conference that was held at the Hilton. The beds were comfy and the view of the ocean was nice. Problems that I encountered during my stay were basically due to this being an older hotel. The security latch on the door did not work because the door frame that it was attached to had been torn out and tried to replace with some shortcut work that did not hold the latch. In the bathroom, when you first entered and turned on the light, there were 30 or 40 tiny black bugs crawling all over the doorframe to the bathroom. The longer the light was on, they disappeared back into the doorframe. I did report the bugs to the front desk, who were very apologetic and stated they would have someone come check the problem. I returned to my room, and within mintues a knock came at my door...then something happened that very much disturbed me. Before I could take 3 steps toward the door, the maintenance man came right on in with his pass key! He said he came to check things out in the room and went walking through the room, just looking at everything and asked, is everything working okay in here? I said, I have no problems except these bugs in the bathroom. Unfortunately, the light had been on in the bathroom and they were not visible at that time so he said, well if you see them again, just let us know! I thought, and did not report them any further because I felt very uncomfortable by that maintenance man just busting into my room and immediately going through my room! This place would definitely be on my list of - only if you have to stay there again because there are no other places available - list! Oh also, they charge for internet service...at a rediculous rate of $5.00 per day! What a rip off!!!

Room Tip: I would ask for a room with an interior door. If the wind is blowing you will be almost blown off t...

“Stay somewhere else.... They are too uppity here and overly priced. They charge for every little thing.”

They changed there pet policy after I had made my reservations. So, when I went to check in at 3:30am they refused me and handed me a list of pet friendly hotels and a list of kennels. I sat in there lobby till 6am trying to book somewhere else when they finally agreed to give me a room. The room was not very nice and not that clean. I left about 4 hours later and they charges me $119 corporate rate. They didnt charge me the $9 parking fee and acted as if they were doing me a favor. I could understand if they changed their pet policy 6 months earlier but it only changed 2 days prior. The customer service sucked and was very beneath Hilton standards. I went to the Sheraton and explained what happened and that they were on the list they gave me as pet friendly. In fact, they had changed their policy 1 1/2 years ago but made an exception for me. Why didn't Hilton do this???

“Not a place for people that pick apart every little detail but a nice place overall”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My husband and I come to Myrtle Beach to two conferences a year. One held at the Hilton and the other one is at a resort in South MB. After reading the comments on the Hilton and all of the complaints, the only immediately suggestion I would make is to fire all of your maids or have some serious training on how to properly clean a room. At the other resort, I watched in awe as they cleaned across the way while I sat on my balcony. The windows were washed, chairs wiped out and balcony rails wiped down. This was on the outside, imagine how clean the rooms were kept. At the Hilton, I saw one maid and one cart sitting outside a door as I walked through the hall. I am sure there were more but I didn't see them. I am sorry but the room we had this past weekend was dirty behind furniture etc. I had to move the bedside stand out to plug up my computer and it was filthy. The bedskirt was full of dust. You could tell the room was only cleaned in the middle so to speak to make it look good when you first walk in. I also think it is sad that we had to pay for wi-fi when most offer it for free! Not only that, it didn't work well at all. It was very hard to get logged on and then it kept dropping offline.
I do not like to only type bad reviews so I will end with the good. The room service dinner we ordered was excellent!! The staff we had any dealings with were very professional and courteous. Most of all I learned that this is a pet friendly hotel and I always support any hotel that will allow my dogs to go on vacation with me.

“A stunning location~”

My husband and I used some of our Hilton Honors points and chanced a weekend at HMBR over New Year's weekend. We booked an oceanfront room and we were not disappointed by the location and view. Our first oceanfront room was clean, bright, and uniquely set with an outdoor entry (vertigo sufferers beware!:). We had to move to another room for our second night to the Royale Palms condominiums located through a hallway into a second building. While this oceanview room was not as open as our first room at the HMBR, the room was more elegantly furnished than our room at the HMBR.

We found the service to be outstanding, the location on the beach was lovely set in a primarily private area (which allows dogs!), and the breakfast delicious. The rooms were both quiet this particular weekend and while we saw families with small children on the property, we did not hear them in our rooms.

The grounds were lovely and it was set in a quiet neighborhood only minutes from outlet shops and chain restaurants. We prefer traveling to resorts during the quiet season and we were not disappointed by HMBR's location, amenities, and service.

The only disappointment I would add is that we heard HMBR will no longer be a pet friendly hotel. This will likely prevent us from returning with our 2 small pets in the future. However, we would absolutely stay here again (likely book an oceanview room in the Royale Palms building) sans chiens.

Room Tip: We highly recommend the oceanview room with a westerly view for afternoon/evening sun.
