“Nice hotel convenient to C of C w/o paying downtown rates”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I traveled to Charleston to visit C of C with my son. This hotel is one of the only hotels on the college's list of recommended hotels that isn't in downtown Charleston. Though it would have been nice to stay downtown I didn't want to pay those high rates. This Holiday Inn was a great alternative. It is just on the other side of a really awesome bridge so we were downtown in about 10 minutes. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Bathrooms were nice though the rooms are a bit small. Comfy beds. The property could use some updating but overall it was well worth the price I paid. Good restaurant choices in the area, too. There is construction in the immediate area that is unsightly but it wasn't noisy.

Dear pjdisme,

Thank you for your kind review.

I agree with you wholeheartedly that we offer a great cost conscious alternative to the downtown hotels in Charleston, especially if you have a family member at the College. Our convenience to both the college as well as downtown is a great selling point for the hotel. While our bridge is beautiful to look at, it has our potential guests seeing a large divide when in actuality with our location, you typically spend more time trying to find a spot to park than it takes to cross the bridge and be where you want to be in Charleston.

On a side note, we also can't wait for the road construction in front of the hotel to be complete.

Thank you again for your review. It is greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

David Jones

“okay not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

room was clean. my room was on the end. very loud whirling motor noise(sounded like a generator ) starting at 7 am. was counting on sleeping late..that didn't happen so went down to the lobby for some cereal. there was a continental bar and a hot bar. .Server announced to 2 couples in front of me, that if you wanted the hot breakfast bar the charge is $5.00, which led me to assume that the cereal was free. I was wrong.. I got a bill for $8.75 for a bowl of frosted flakes. Server told me i had to be a gold member to get free. i saw no sign anywhere. why give the price of the hot breakfast and not the other?? If i didn't get such a good deal on Priceline, I would definitely be upset.

Dear idlehands_2,

I am sorry to hear of the noise that woke you up. One of the bonuses of staying in a hotel is the fact that you get to wake up when you want and I apologize for this. If you can reply to me at my e-mail listed below, I would very much appreciate the chance to investigate this noise to ensure that this type of situation does not occur again.

I understand your frustration regarding the breakfast. As the server stated, we do not offer complimentary breakfast unless you are a Gold member of our Priority Club which I feel confidant that that was the conversation you overheard. In regards to that same line of conversation, I would recommend that on any of your next visits to a Holiday Inn, that you do become a member of Priority Club. Regardless of the rate you paid through a third party such as Priceline, you do accumulate stay credits which will assist you to become a Gold level member of our program.

We do appreciate your patronage and again invite you to contact me at my e-mail address to determine the cause of the noise so that we can investigate and correct any problem we might have.

Best regards,

David Jones

“Why stay at a Holiday Inn when there's a Holiday Inn Express?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

person found this review helpful

I stayed here only because someone else had booked the hotel. Honestly, I've never understood staying at a Holiday Inn when they have their Express brand next door.

I assumed this would be an above avg hotel since you typically pay a bit more than an Express. It wasn't. The hotel was clean; but plain, a little dated, and didn't seem as good as most HIE's I stay in.

Mediocre at best. I'd try the HIE next door when I'm in town again.

“Very Convenient and Very Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

My boyfriend and I went for New Year's Eve Weekend. The lady at the front desk when we arrived Friday night made checking in a breeze, and was very helpful in finding us a cab downtown. The lobby and our room were very clean. Our room smelled of smoke, and I soon noticed the ash trays on the tables and realized we had gotten a smoking room. I'm not one to fuss over things I should have noticed while booking, and I knew we would be out of the room most of the weekend, and didn't bother changing rooms. All in all our room was very clean, housekeeping did a great job, and the front desk service was excellent. We didn't use any of the facilities the hotel offered, or eat at the hotel restaurant as we were there to enjoy the restaurants of downtown Charleston, however from what I could see it looked just as clean as the rest of the hotel. For the excellent price and service, I was very pleased and I'd say much better than coughing up the several hundred each night for a room in downtown Charleston for New Year's Eve Weekend.

Room Tip: Be sure to book a non smoking room if smoke bothers you!

Dear Carolina Management,

Thank you for the information regarding your stay.

I do apologize for any inconvenience you experienced with your stay, in particular, being placed in a smoking room. It is our procedure to confirm room type as well as smoking preference upon check-in and I offer my apologies that we failed this in your case. By reading your other comments, this situation did not seem to be affect the rest of your stay and I am pleased that we were able to overcome our error. I will share your positive comments with the Front Office as well as our Housekeeping staff at our next meeting.

I am glad you chose our area to spend your New Years Eve and while I am proud of our restaurant, I understand the desire to want to enjoy the other offerings in our area.

Thank you for your comments about our hotel.

Best regards,

“Very Pleased with Holiday Inn in Mount Pleasant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We got a great deal through Priceline on a room in Mount Pleasant at the Holiday Inn. We arrived to a very spacious & clean room. The hotel lobby is nice as well. It was New Year's Eve, so it was very festive atmosphere. The evening clerk (don't recall her name) was very friendly and helpful. Check-in was a breeze. We actually got a "handicap" room, which was very nice and spacious, but the shower was a bit challenging due to the hand held sprayer and lack of water pressure - and the water didn't get hot enough for my taste, personally.

We visited the bar area & had a light snack & adult beverage before heading out for our NYE event in downtown Charleston. The service was a bit slow & stilted, but we liked the convenience.

We stayed 3 nights & housekeeping did a great job of cleaning our room whenever we were out (we made sure to put our "do not disturb" sign out so they'd know when they could access the room). However, they failed to give us enough plastic/foam cups for beverages and forgot to give us coffee condiments. Still, they were unobtrusive and did not create any unnecessary noise.

The 1st night, we were awakened in the wee hours of the morning by a crying baby next door - this went on for hours. We hated to complain, but we finally had to call down to the desk & let them know as we weren't able to sleep (the walls are pretty thin). They got right on it and we didn't hear much else after that.

We did miss not having a free breakfast of any sort (but made do in our room), the lack of a fridge/microwave in our room and not having a hot tub or jacuzzi accessible. However, we know that's the deal when you get a room when bidding on Priceline.

The convenience to downtown Charleston is great. We were able to drive there within 10 minutes and since we love the Ravenel bridge, it was always a pleasure to see it each time we traveled. We also went for a long walk to Patriot's Point. It's nice that you can do this from the hotel. There are general restaurants in the area, but we come for the downtown experience, so didn't venture into any of these.

All in all, our stay at the Holiday Inn in Mount Pleasant was very nice, especially considering the price. We'd definitely stay there again under similar circumstances.

Dear Luvtotravel1965,

Thank you for your comments on TripAdvisor.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay and I'll share your comments with both the Front Office and Housekeeping staff at our next meeting.

I do appreciate the comments regarding the areas that we could improve upon also (coffee amenities) and will ensure that we are replenishing these items in the rooms of our guests who stay more than one night. While this should be completed consistently, we obviously failed in your case and want to correct this for future guests.

I will offer my recommendation that while your stay was booked through a third party that you enroll in Priority Club. While you will not accumulate points, you will be recognized as having a stay and this will be a benefit to you in that you could possibly receive such room upgrades, special offers, meal discounts, etc... Consider this in any future visits that you stay at a Holiday Inn.

Thank you for your comments as well as your patronage.

Best regards,
David Jones
