“Best Comfort Suites We Experienced in the Past Two Years”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

As a Platinum Choice Hotels customer my wife and I stay at a lot of similar properties. Sometimes our friends join us as well. I look for value, convenient location, a reasonable breakfast and friendly customer service. We were visiting Charleston, SC. We chose this one because of its reasonable price compared to anything else downtown. It was also very close to the Isle of Palms beach area and with excellent access to the mall. The place is only a 12 minute drive from the Charleston historic district. I booked two rooms for two nights at a discounted pre-paid price. When my wife read some of the other reviews, she was very concerned. We checked-in with trepidation. We were checked in by a very helpful gentleman who showed me the kiosk computer, helped me print and chatted with me at length about various topics and told me he loved the 3pm to 11pm shift for the opportunity to check in people and chat. The next morning (Sunday) five of us arrived at breakfast and the menu blew us away: scrambled eggs plain and with sausage and cheese, grits, ham, waffles, boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit and all the usual continental breakfast assortment. A tall man came over from time to time to chat us up, clear our tables and make us feel very welcome. Breakfast on day two (Monday) was even more amazing: corned beef hash, sausages, scrambled eggs, and grits. The orange juice was thick and very tasty. The same man came once again to look after us at breakfast. The beds in both our rooms were very comfortable, rooms were spacious and everything was up to the standard we would expect at this type of property. If we ever visit Charleston again we would stay here again without hesitation. The GPS did trip us up finding the place but as we continued to drive on Hungryneck we saw the sign.

I had a reservation when we checked in I was given a key we went up to the room and it was great,we had a balcony, which I went out every night of my stay. The bar next door was a bit loud,I stop a young lady in the hall to ask for for towels she went down stairs to get them and brought them back up to the room. She then turned around and had a conversation with my husband and I and you really don't find that happen,I thought she was nice she even helped us out when we were leaving with the bags. The staff here was very very helpful.I would reccommend Comfort Suites to ALL of my family when we return for our Family Reunion.

“Staff was good; rooms need work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

Overall, our stay was fine. The staff was helpful and friendly at check-in and check-out, the location of the hotel is convenient, and the accommodations were sufficient for what we needed. However, with all the hotels available in the area I doubt we would stay here again due to the condition of the rooms.

One positive about the rooms is that they are huge and spacious. However, the carpet, curtains, and sofa were grimy and dirty, far beyond the normal wear and tear to be expected in a hotel. The curtains in particular were filthy, with mysterious stains all over them. In addition, whenever the air conditioning unit was on, it blew one curtain out from the window, which was really annoying because there was no way to hold it in place.

The other issue we had with the hotel was the noise. Obviously, the hotel isn't generally responsible for the behavior of its guests...but it was unfortunate that nobody said anything to the youth soccer team running up and down the hallways, literally making the walls shake. I would never expect a hotel to be really quiet during the day, but this noise was extreme, and it carried and reverberated through the halls.

“Never again...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

My wife and I had a reservation for only 1 night (thankfully). We had the same experience as many of the others who had review this facility. Although we did not need to move into a room until late in the evening, we arrived about 1 pm to "claim" our room. Althea at the front desk told us that we would not be allowed to check in until after 3 pm. So, since there was no one else to make our appeal to, we left and had to come back a couple of hours later. Very inconvenient for us! When we arrived in our room, it was reasonably clean and reasonably furnished, but certainly not up to the standards of many other Comfort Suites we have stayed in. This was not very guest friendly policy.
The next morning we discovered around 8:30 am that the toilet was backed up. I called the front desk and over the phone was offered the "opportunity" to come down to the front desk and pick up a plunger. The front desk person told me she was the only one there and could not leave the desk. I declined that offer.
We went to the elevator to descend from our 3rd floor room to the lobby level for breakfast. After waiting an long time for the elevator we decided to walk down the stairs. As we descended on the stairs (which were filthy dirty) we learned from other guests that the elevator was Out of Order. No sign had been posted.
Arriving in the breakfast room, we found that 1 of the 3 hot items on the buffet was empty. Otherwise, breakfast was typical and ok.
Upon checking out at the front desk, I requested a "comment card" from Althea. I was told that they had run out and were "on order" which, of course, was very understandable since I'm guessing that this facility probably had many guest complaints to register.
Like many reviews previous to our, we will NOT return to this Comfort Suites and will always check our future lodging facilities on tripadvisor.com prior to booking. Bad mistake on our part for not doing for this choice!!

“We would stay here again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

We had a 6 person suite two beds and a pull out couch. Check in was easy but not able to be done until 3 since hotel was full. Room was clean but we did not have bedding for couch. Called down to front desk and was told we could get sheets and blanket but they had no extra pillows. I was diappointed we paid extra for those two guest but was not provided with the items for them(pillows towels washcloth ect). Breakfast was ok better than other places I've stayed, staff preparing breakfast was very nice. We did not use the pool, water looked cloudy from over use. Check out was very easy since we paid cash at arrival. Location was good we would stay here again.
