“Cozy stay in July”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2010

I stayed for two nights in late July. This was my first time in Charleston and I was having trouble finding a room because many places were booked. The room was clean. The breakfast was okay you can make your own waffles. There is tea and coffee available 24/7 in the lobby which was very nice. I used the free wireless internet. There is a computer in the lobby to use. The lady who checked us in was very friendly. It was 105 a night and I thought that was a good price for the amenities and location. It was a very short drive to downtown. Only problem was a little beetle bug that surprised us on the wall. Everything else was comfortable.

“Some good, some bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2010

Stayed here primarily because of Farm Bureau discount for Choice Hotels.

The good: Sleep Inn located near about 5 other hotels just after you cross into Mount Pleasant. very close to bridge towards downtown Charleston. Semi-residential neighborhood near fast food, casual restaurants, shopping centers, with lots of bicyclists and dog-walkers. Very pretty landscaping, woodsy area. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice, shady pool area with 41/2' pool. The hotel and room were very clean.Only noticed minor signs of wear and tear (couple chips in tile, picks in carpet.)

The bad: Our room had an unusual odor, that we never could identify. You noticed it each time you entered room, but got used to it while in the room. The mattress on the Queen bed needed replacing. Neither of us slept well on it. Although the breakfast was typical hotel fare, I didn't care for the selections/flavors offered. Very few "healthy" options. They offered whole fruit, but no fruit cocktail/mix, etc. or any yogurt. Saw no whole wheat pastry/bread options. There was a long line every morning for the only waffle machine. I'm sure they were good, but not worth time to wait on.

*** Didn't realize when I booked that hotel accepts dogs. I have nothing against dogs, but I don't have one inside my home and would rather not have them in my hotel either. Kinda wondered if odor in room was b/c of a previous dog! Unsure of they designate certain rooms, "dog rooms" or not. But the Sleep inn would probably be a good choice for those travelling with dog.

“very friendly and helpful staff”

We stayed here two nights as we were escaping the snow and ice from NC and needed to be in FL in a few days. The two young people at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. We had a king room and it was large. The only bad part of our experience, which was not the hotel's fault, was that two women with children rented the two rooms across from us and they kept theirs doors open and the children were running up and down the hallway and into their rooms. Of course, they were giggling and carrying on the whole time. They went out in the evening and came back and quieted down by 10 PM. This hotel is convenient to downtown Charleston and expecially convenient to the great restaurants on Shem Creek. We stayed here once or twice before and will definitely be back. The breakfast buffet was pretty extensive and quite good.

“Better places than this one”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2008

It is over the bridge from Charleston so we thought this would be cheaper than in town. Traveling with two adults, two teenagers. I booked two beds and assumed two queen beds. Wrong! they do not have queen beds, only doubles or one king. They did give us a free cot. The bathroom door, a sliding door did NOT work and it was a big problem. We only stayed one night, but there are several other hotels right next to this one which might be better. If you are like me and try to stay in the same hotel chain to earn points, it would help you to know that there is a mainstay suites right next to this -- which is the same company, choicehotels.com. I don't know the condition of that place but I would have considered it if I had known this in advance. This hotel was clean but worn out.
