I travel a lot, and I've stayed at some great hotels, and some "dumpy" hotels. This has got to be the worst place that I've ever stayed in over 30 years of traveling.
This was our first year as "snowbirds", and we needed to stay overnight on our drive from New Hampshire to Florida. I reserved this hotel because they accepted pets (and we were driving with our dog and cat). The "park-at-your-door" motor-lodge design was perfectly suited for our pet situation -- that's why I selected this location. And it was the right driving distance from New Hampshire. When we opened the door, we discovered a very "worn-out" room in a state of total disrepair. The furniture should have been replaced 10 years ago. The bathroom was disgusting and the carpet was filthy. I made the mistake of walking on the floor in my stocking feet -- the bottom of white socks quickly changed to the color of brown. It was very late, we were exhausted, we needed to sleep, so we had little choice but to spend the night. My wife refused to walk on the floor without shoes.
We woke early the next morning (5AM), and couldn't get out of there fast enough. I paid about $69 for the room -- they should have paid me to stay there. I’ll sleep in my car next time before I’d stay at this hotel.
I wrote a letter to Comfort Inn customer-service a few days later. They replied with a predictable "we are really sorry about your experience" email. However, they left me with the impression that they could really care less. I assume it's a franchise operation, and Comfort Inn (corporate) probably has very little control (except to revoke their franchise rights). I'm very disappointed that Comfort Inn didn’t try to do something more to make me feel better about this terrible experience.
