“Friendly and helpful employees. Splendid views. Clean and quiet.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

All this in February where you can have the beaches, bikeways, restaurants to yourselves.
From the moment we arrived, we felt that every wish was taken care of. Rent bicycles. You can ride on the beach or on the designated bike paths free of automobile traffic. Stop to look at the wildlife. The hotel is very clean. The bathrooms large. Our favorite room is one that faces the ocean. The Jasmine Restaurant serves healthy, delicious food. The wine list is excellent. If you like to walk, there are many places to do so. Six miles away from the hotel is the beautiful country club where you can have lunch outside. The sunsets are amazing. It is expensive to stay here. So we can only treat ourselves once in a while.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, stay on the top floor right on the ocean. It is just beautiful and very quiet...

“Lovely and Formal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We loved this resort. It was a little too formal for a typical beach vacation but all aspects were well done. It is hellacious hot and humid in August, I would recommend spring.
Rent bikes when you arrive, it's fun to ride on the beach and there are trails that take you wherever you want.

“Just a little less than perfect - but close”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

This hotel has comfortable beds, very well-trained and polite staff - and is almost perfect. I have just a few comments because little things like this can - and should - be fixed. 1. At check in I asked if there was brunch the next day and was told yes, only to later learn that brunch was only served on Sundays. 2. My son and I ate in the lobby bar. While every other bar table was brought nibbles, I had to ask for them after 15 minutes. Our waiter also acted as if he'd rather be anywhere but there. 3. I have stayed at the sanctuary close to 10 times (or more). Not only was my name spelled incorrectly, but I received a first-timer welcome letter. Meanwhile, my friend, who has stayed there about the same amount as I, gets fruit and other goodies in her room when she arrives as a welcome back. You would think a hotel at this level would take better care of returning guests, especially in the off season and with their prices. But, I am quibling - this is a truly lovely place.

“Great room, service, property and location”

We have been to Kiawah before but have previously stayed in homes. This was our first stay at Sanctuary. We loved every aspect about it and the weather was pretty chilly in December. We had a one-BR, 2 bath suite and it was large enough for the 4 of us (parents and teens). We had a huge balcony with a great ocean view, looking out over the center lawn. Most impressive may have been the high level of service and hospitality from every staff member we met. When our hot water died in one of the bathrooms, a service person was quick to come up, made sure his timing to fix it was Ok with us, and fixed it quickly. Restaurant and food service was also very good, although expensive for most options. My only complaint is that they only offer free AM coffee service in the lobby area near one restaurant and it ends at 9 AM. I would prefer, and expect, coffee makers of some sort in the room. Otherwise, this is clearly and easily a 4.5-5 star hotel and we will return.

Room Tip: we chose an ocean front 1 BR/2bath suite and loved the size of the room and the balcony that overloo...

“Fantastic even if you don't like golf.”

Spent four days here just after New Years. Staff were exhausted but ultimate professionals. We could not fault a thing. Fantastic service from valet to dining.
Check out the Italian restaurant on the island, name escapes me but a great experience.
