“15 Stays and Counting...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This was a last minute winter excursion to our favorite resort. We have now been to the Sanctuary 15 times for family vacations. Once again, the resort lived up to our expectations. We have stayed at many hotels and this one continually falls to the top due to its service, accommodations and beach views. The resort is very luxurious and is very non-pretentious. We can be dressed in our eveningware or shorts and flipflops. Either way, we are treated with the same exceptional service. The resort is beautiful and immaculately maintained and each of the rooms (save for the "garden room views") have killer ocean views. With plenty of water (three pools and of course the ocean), green space (frisbee or football throwing), bike rental, nearby shopping and restaurants, there is plenty to do with the family and yet at the same time is very relaxing. Only 30 minutes of a drive to Charleston. We will be back again and agin.

“Great golf and Wonderful Views on Ocean Course”

Great time golfing on Ocean Course with beautiful sunny 74 degree weather in November! Had a very good caddy named Prescott who made us both great putters for the day. Practically had course to ourselves....this was more like heaven than Costner's silly baseball movie!!! Highly recommend you playing it for some really interesting holes and good workout since it is always cartpath only. Club house is really nice with some interesting pictures. Service was outstanding with all the pro shop and course friendly and professional personnel. Views of the ocean sometimes within only a few yards were spectacular. We stayed in a villa near tennis courts that were older but nice accomodations.

“Quiet and relaxing”

We checked in the day after Christmas and the hotel was empty...it was wonderful! Upon check-in everyone on the property made us feel welcome! The ocean view room was amazing and my daughter LOVED spending hours in the giant tub with her toys!! We ordered room service, only once, for breakfast and it was not very good....the reason we only ordered it once. We spent most of our time in Charleston which of course has many amazing restauraunts. We used the indoor pool, exercise room and spent time on the beach. Every aspect of the hotel was beautiful and we would love to visit again soon!

“"Absolutely Amazing"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

The accomodations at The Sanctuary were amazing and the food excellent!!!! Tomasso's at Turtle Point Clubhouse served up a wonderful cocktail reception for our daughter's wedding and it was above and beyond anything we had ever experienced. It was a wonderful addition to a beautiful wedding weekend! Nick Hunter Chef De Cuisine not only provided excellent food, he even made sure our wedding gift to the couple was set up in a place of honor before the wedding couple arrived. Thanks Nick! The staff at Tomasso's went above and beyond in providing an amazing atmosphere and the food was the best!!!! Our daughter hosted a birthday luncheon at Jasmine Porch at The Santuary during the weekend as well and Robyn in bakery made sure the cupcakes were special..thanks Robyn! Hats off also to J.D. & Franke at The Sanctuary for all their hard work and to Jen Almond at the Lobby Bar...we appreciate all of you. Merideth in concierge went above and beyond more than once during our stay and Alex served our meal in the Ocean Room as well as Jasmine Porch..thanks for taking care of us Alex. All of our wedding guest enjoyed The Sanctuary as well as the Villas located on the property and all said they would be back. We appreciate the effort and love the staff on Kiawah Island showed during this special weekend. We will definitely be back as will our guest as well. Thanks for a job well done!!!!!!

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the swimming pool and we had balcony seats to the wonderful fireworks show at mi...

“Great Beach Resort”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 December 2011

There is no question that the beach at Kiawah Island is among the very best in America. One can find vastly superior resorts but the fact remains the combination of beach and South Carolina low country is best found at Kiawah Island hence this is a place well worth a visit. The resort villas are tired and mediocre at best. Top class accomodation can only be found at the Sanctuary Hotel which is first class by any standard. If cost is not a factor one must choose the Sanctuary as the villas are a disappointment.Golf at Kiawah is expensive and only the Ocean Course could be considered "special". The other resort golf courses on Kiawah Island are acceptable but if you can play only one game best to splurge and play the Ocean Course. There are lots of tennis courts, bike rentals and nature tours so be sure to check those out as well. As for dinning I would avoid the resort and travel into Charleston for some of the best dinning in the south. Eating on Kiawah Island is expensive and not worth the extra cost.

Room Tip: If you are there for the beach be sure to pick accomodations located as close as possible to the bea...
