“Don't be afraid of #5402 anymore”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2011

I booked unit 5402 before reading the review giving it a rating of 1. I was understandably anxious after I found the review, but we were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The carpet has been replaced with good-quality carpet. (I have a crawling baby, so I was especially attentive to the state of the floor.) I noticed no unseemly smells, and the kitchen ceiling tiles looked good enough; maybe not brand-spanking-new, but I didn't worry about any of them falling out on my head. There were a few places on the furniture and fixtures that could be easily fixed (dark spots on the coffee table, burn marks on the lampshades), but all in all this was a good place to stay.

My family and I have stayed in five or six oceanfront condos on Hilton Head, and this was by far the best view of the ocean. We were the closest we've ever been, with nothing between our balcony and the ocean except sand dunes and about 10 feet of well-manicured grass.

The kids' pool is spectacular, with zero-entry, a mushroom, and several spouts and fountains. Our baby loved it! We were also pleased with the on-site bicycle rental, cornhole and ladderball games in the grass, nice grills in common areas (which were either well-maintained or purchased new every year, because they showed no signs of damage that comes from constant exposure to saltwater air), great playgrounds, and clay tennis courts.

Another perk of staying at the Island club is that it's secluded. Granted, we were there in September when most families aren't traveling, but we found the beach directly in front of the property to be sparsely populated. This was both a pro and a con - we couldn't easily ride bikes to dinner and shopping as we could when staying in more central areas like Sea Pines or Forest Beach, but it was worth it to feel a little more secluded. We would definitely go back to the Island Club.

“Great location but Unit #3202 mediocre.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

Overview: Island Club is in a terrific location. The Atlantis building is pretty much oceanfront property. Several units in this building have at least a partial view of the ocean. Walkway access to the beach and the playground are nicely kept up. The pools are nice but can get very crowded so get there early.
As for Unit #3202, here are the positives: nice tile entryway. There's a flat screen TV in the master bedroom and the living room. Nice view of the common area/ playground and partial view of the ocean. There were also some beach toys/ gear in the foyer closet which was also nice. Chairs were very rusty and dirty though, so we didn't use those.
Cons: Kitchen ceiling looks very moldy and looks like it's going to fall apart soon. The kitchen is not well stocked at all. Since many families decide to go the condo route for extra space and kitchen use, that aspect was very disappointing. We had to go to WalMart to buy kitchen shears and a few other kitchen utensils. Pots/ pans were of a very cheap grade and scratched up. We were hesitant to use the few small kitchen appliances they had because they were either really dirty or rusty. To sum it up, the kitchen needs some major updating and remodeling.
The property mgmt company was fine to work with. The owners of the condo though need to fix this place up.

“Wonderful employees - beautiful grounds”

This is a two and three bedroom condo. We traded through RCI for our unit. The employees were really nice. It did not matter if they were working on the grounds, at the gate or in checking in - they all spoke or asked if they could help. This building is directly on the ocean, but it does not mean you will have a view of the ocean. They have built a wooden stairway so that even a wheelchair can make it down to the beach. The ocean is close. However, during the busy season, don't expect to park close to your unit. They do have a space somewhere fairly close. They do have handicapped parking but not enough. Again depending when you visit, the main pool was not large enough for all of the various condos who use the same pool. The grounds are lovely (check out my pictures.) I believe there are some of the loveliest areas on the island at this sight.

Room Tip: Do not try to check in early - checkin is at 5PM. Also bring your vinegar with you as those jelly f...

“A perfect beach vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 July 2011

My family (6 of us) stayed in until 2201 right on the beach for a week and loved every minute of it! The unit had plenty of space and a nice kitchen to cook in. The location is on the north end of the island so it is far away from most of the tourist traps which made for a more relaxing experience. The only thing I could complain about is that the pool could be a bit larger.....it was filled to capacity almost every day (but that didn't keep us from taking advantage of it) We would definitely choose to return!
