The Village is in a small quiet area of the larger Palmetto dunes resort of Hilton Head. We stayed in a "cottage" (148), which was clustered around a quad courtyard with 3 other units. I was impressed with the generous size of the unit. We had a one bedroom, that had a good size eat in kitchen in it's own room off the entry foyer, a large living room with a 42" lcd TV, pull out couch, two love seats, two bathrooms and a porch with it's own table and chairs under awnings.
As other reviewers have said, it's older, and the cleanliness was OK, (not Great, but it wasn't filthy). The furniture was in good shape and the cottage overall was a great deal for the price. The lady who worked in the office went out of her way to help us, and was very pleasant. They tried to have activities for the kids poolside during the week, but there was never enough kids participating. The very cool thing that we liked is that laundry is free, and they even provide free detergent. That's a first.
The bad was that, they had just sprayed for bugs the day before we got there, and it must have chased them all out of hiding. My kids made a game of counting how many they killed. 22 when we checked out after a week. :-) The neighbors were loud and you could easily hear them through the walls. They also smoked, and it permeated into our room through the ventilation... Nasty! It's supposed to be smoke free, but we smelled the lingering odor as soon as we walked in.
They also advertise free wireless. This was hit or miss. The modem is in the laundry room, and there's a quirky ethernet converter to a non standard wireless transmitter mounted outside that's supposed to service the entire quad. After several calls, to the office and the cable company tech support, i gave up. The Village "tech" guy would come, reset the modem, connect his laptop and say "all good".... duh, the modem is fine, it's the goofy wireless transmitter. the only wireless internet i was able to consistently connect to was from the units in the quad around 113.... a long, weak, signal away. And yes, it's good to have internet on vacation so you can find the local restaurants and golf course discounts, and download netflix movies at night... but it's not a killer, just annoying.
Overall, i wouldn't seek out the Village to stay in again, but we had a fun time on Hilton Head, for a good price. I'd recommend this place to a poorer relative or some college kids who didn't expect much.
