“Great location in Sea Pines”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2010

Our unit was spacious, quiet and well equipped, and in a good location convenient to everything in Sea Pines. Bike path in front and October is the perfect time to use it. We rented bikes across the street for the week - there's covered storage by the front door. Golf course and lagoon complete with 'gator in the back. Easy bike ride to beach and Harbor Town. Decor could use an update in spots but with the economy that's not a priority. Staff pleasant and helpful. Beach club is great.

“Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2009

Nice villas on the Heron Point Golf Course. Pros - Shopping center across street didn’t have much because of closures, the town had a lot of that; the location in the center of Sea Pines Plantation was advantageous; the bike trail was right outside the door; the back of villa overlooked golf course allowing us a nice view of the local wildlife; villa was clean, roomy and had all the necessities including internet access.

Cons - there were no organized activities, the pool was small, there was just 2 shuffleboard courts and the available beach was a drive away.

Great place for couple wanting golf or a family with young children. Older teenagers might be bored. Sea Pines Plantation and Hilton Head in general is very low key. Bike trails are wonderful, wildlife is everywhere, watercraft available, but not much else.

“Often Overlooked Value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2009

Swallowtail is a small, unassuming, often overlooked set of multi-level townhomes located within walking distance to Harbour Town within Sea Pines Plantation. My family has been coming to Hilton Head Island for 35 years and this is my second stay at Swallowtail. The units are quite large and well kept, though not immaculate. The furnishings are comfortable, though not luxurious.

The upstairs master bedroom is HUGE with an en suite large master bathroom that features a shower and large bathtub with sky light. Very nice. Also on the second floor is a sitting room with game table and convertible sofa bed.

The main floor has a modern kitchen with full laundry and folding table, a dining area, a good sized living room, another bedroom (with 2 single beds) and a full bathroom. There is also a sliding door off the living room which leads to a deck. If you stay here, you should request a unit with a lagoon view. We saw aligators, turtles and lots of cool birds.

Within Swallowtail, there is a pool, hot tub and barbeque grills available for use by anyone staying on property at no additional cost.

This is not a "high glitz" property. It is quiet, well located, spacious and a very good value.

“Quiet vacation location”

A friend and I stayed a week at Swallowtail at Sea Pines. We booked the week through Interval International using my timeshare points. Technically, check-in was on a Friday, but arriving on Saturday with no problem (we just lost a day of the reserved week).

The units are two-story condos w attractive modern design (which I like but is starting to feel just a tad dated). The bedroom on the first level has two twin beds. The second floor king bed suite has a very very large bathroom with soaking tub (not whirlpool tub). The second floor sitting area has a sofa bed. The kitchen is well-stocked with appliances and utensils/gadgets, including dishwasher and washer and dryer. The open dining living area has a deck outside overlooking a pond with turtles and other wildlife. The dining table seats at least six. There is wireless Internet access in each unit, and the tv has excellent selection of channels. There is a pool and shuffleboard on site. There is a storage area outside in front of each unit, which is a good place to store bicycles securely. Short walk or bicycle ride to Harbour Town. Across from Sea Pines bike paths. Since the condos are in Sea Pines, guests have Sea Pines vehicle passes and can come and go into the resort without paying a fee. Entering Sea Pines plantation, you must detour through the welcome center drive-through and pick up your vehicle pass for the week, and then check in at the Harbour Town Yacht Club office.

“Fly high at the Swallowtail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2006

Just back from a week at the Swallowtail, Sea Pines, Hilton Head Island. We thoroughly enoyed our stay. The unit is large, having two bedrooms, two bathrooms, two sleeper sofas, good size kitchen, and a deck overlooking the golf course. It is a very peaceful location, but since Swallowtail is located next to the bike trail you have easy access to everything in Sea Pines. There's also a shopping center across the road where you can dine or take-away. It's a pleasant bike ride to the public entrance to the beach, and Harbour Town is not too far away either. We particularly enjoy biking, so we biked for several hours every day. There is a small pool onsite, and guests have access to a larger pool close to Harbour Town. Check-in is at Harbour Town, and prior to that you must check-in at the Sea Pines Welcome Center where you get your pass for your car. It's a bit confusing, I think, but since we've been going to Hilton Head for many, many years, we had no problems in finding our way about. However, if you've never been to Hilton Head, and you've been driving all day, are tired, it's dark, then I suggest that you get explicit directions ahead of time. A great place for lunch is Signe's. Their pecan pie is delicious too, by the way!
