“A great place to vaction.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2010

This was one of the best places we have stayed on Hilton Head. The rooms were very clean and with a lot of space. We were overlooking the golf course and a lagoon. The resort furnishes two bicycles for the entire stay and Hilton Head has lots of miles of bike paths to enjoy (a lot of it is shady). It is very quiet at the resort and we all felt very secure since South Winds is in a gated plantation. The pool is close to all the condos and the beach is a short drive or bicycle ride away. The staff was very helpful at check-in. If your looking for a nice, clean, and comfortable place to stay at Hilton Head this is the place.

“A comfortable and quiet place near everything”

My wife and I stayed here in mid-November, which is just past beach season, but it was still warm enough to enjoy walks on the beach, golf in short sleves and shorts. The check in location is difficult to find in the dark and the check in time (5PM) is after sunset this time of year. The check in office is on the second floor of a strip of offices tucked away off of the main street, they really need better signs. (The whole shipyard development is really dark at night, very few lights on the roads, easy to lose your way) The women at check in was very helpful and efficient. (yes it is on the second floor). At one point we lost our room key during a bike ride on the beach and called the office with our cell phone and the maintenace man who was nearby at the pool opened the door for us right away. The unit was certainly spacious for just the two of us. A very nice living room, well equipped kitchen and a large master bedroom and bath with jacuzzi and seperate shower. It was nice to have a washer & dryer in the unit. The view from the back deck and windows is of a small canal and the golf course. (ther were allagator warnings in the check in material but we never saw one). The unit comes with two single speed baloon tire bikes and we used them for a ride to the beach but mostly we walked or ran to the beach. Teh sand at low tide is very hard and is great for walking, running or bikeing. The golf course in Shipyard was not as nice as the one in the next development over, Pametto Dunes, the price is comparable so I would recommend trying the Palmetto Dunes Ocean Course. Also played Sea Pines Harbor Town, which is a famous course, not cheap but really beautiful. Lots of shopping and restaurants a short drive away, we bought groceries at the Publix supermarket and used our kitchen for breakfast each day and dinner on most nights. We made a day trip to Savannah and it was an easy drive to and from on secondary roads. This was an RCI timeshare swap for us we are not sure what the going price is for rental, but I would gladly recommend this a nice place to stay on Hilton Head. The second bedroom and bathroom were pretty modest but appeared to be more than adequate for children. Just a pair of small twin beds. I think adults would be kind of cramped.

My family and friends have been coming to Southwind II for near 20 years. As my children have grown up and married, we go every year and now bring my grandchildren. We always have a great time. The place is always clean and the service is great. The pool is so close and to get to the beach is as easy as pie. We enjoy the bikes that come with the place. And we now enjoy the Art Cafe and the Ice Cream that we get at Coligny. Our family looks forward to vacation every year!

“Wonderful condo, great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2010

We just spent a week at Southwind ll and it was one of the nicest places we have stayed in Hilton Head. We had a two bedroom, two bath condo-each bedroom had a king bed.
The condo was very roomy and all the furnishings and colors were updated. The kitchen was very large with plenty of cabinet and countertop(granite)space.

The condo also has free wifi-which was very convenient. The pool area has containers to recycle cans, plastic and glass. It is a short bike or walk to the beach and two bikes are included with the condo.

Our check in experience was very nice and quick-we got to check in at 3pm and there were no timeshare people to be seen. They called one time during the week to see if we wanted to attend a timeshare meeting and we just said no.

We had a wonderful time at Southwind ll and have already made our reservations to return later this year.

“Almost perfect timeshare swap experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2009

We swapped a week of our timeshare for Christmas week at Southwind II on Hilton Head Island, so this was our first time at Southwind II and Hilton Head.

We arrived after hours, after dark, and the place was not easy to find, even with GPS. We tried calling the check-in office for more precise directions but the phone system would not allow us to reach a live person, instead we could only get a recording which recited directions once, then hung up. After about 15 minutes of driving around we finally found the check in office. After that, check-in was easy and pleasant. We went straight upstairs and did not encounter any timeshare soundrels at the ground level entrance (perhaps because we arrived after hours?) The staff was friendly and courteous.

PROS: The grounds are immaculate and beautifully designed. The unit itself was awesome. It had an open, airy floorplan, with three bedrooms and four baths, including two full-size master baths with jacuzzi and nice-sized showers. Water pressure is great! Beautiful view out back of a small lake and trees. TVs were old CRT style but there is a DVD player in the living room and a stereo as well. The stereo has RCA ins so you can hook up an iPod or iPhone to play music, so remember to pack an adapter cable. There is a washer/dryer right in the unit, very convenient. Out of all the timeshare we have traded over the years, this is the best overall.

CONS: The vanity countertops were curiously low, almost kindergarten-level. I really had to bend over to shave and brush my teeth, and I'm only 5'7"! Our mattresses were very soft and need replacement. We encountered several maintenance issues: two broken stove burners, slow drains, and burned out light bulbs. Not show stoppers but inconvenient nonetheless. My biggest complaint is the WiFi service. While free, it uses an unfriendly authentication method that constantly kicks you off and repeatedly asks for the password, then redirects you to a timeshare homepage instead of the page you wanted. We had the same problem on XP laptops and iPhones. ATT customers note: there is no 3G anywhere on Hilton Head!
