A friend and I stayed for 10 days, the minimum I would recommend. 2-3 weeks would be ideal. We met a wonderful group of other women, and hope to return the same time next year.
The negative: Our accommodations were further away than the website indicates, which required us to rent a car at the last minute. My friend's registration forms were lost, causing her to be served a food to which she is highly allergic. Bob Wright jumped in and resolved this immediately, but the concierge was more concerned with accusing my friend and her husband of not sending the forms, even though she had confirmation from H3 that the forms were received. The concierge was slow to resolve other issues, and we were surprised not to hear from Bob Moore.
The positive: The program is very comprehensive, in addressing all aspects of achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The classes were effective in identifying the underlying causes of excess weight - improper diet, lack of appropriate exercise, and the psychological factors which cause emotional and stress eating. Helpful strategies were discussed, and individual plans were developed to continue the H3 experience at home. Bob Wright and Lisette were very knowledgeable and passionate about helping people.
The food was superb. Everyone was amazed at the quantity of food and quality of meals, yet the daily calorie count was 1200. A great lesson learned - you can eat delicious, filling and nutritionally balanced meals and still lose weight. Kudos to the the kitchen team for their creativity and genuine concern for each guest.
The exercise programs were broad in scope, with something for everyone. A few favorites included cardio-boxing, body sculpting, circuit training and all of the pool fitness classes. The heated pool was a major highlight! I would highly recommend any of Karen's Yoga classes, as well as the Reformer Pilates with Linda. My friend took extensive personal training sessions with Jeff, and thought he was exceptional.
The surroundings are very pleasant, with opportunities for beach walks, biking and walking, if you're not totally exhausted by the daily activities!
Bottom Line: Life-changing experience. Confirm housing arrangements/transportation needs in advance. Call to ensure that registrations forms are received, esp. if you have dietary restrictions. Attend the classes, even if you think you don't need them - you'll be surprised with what you learn. Have an open mind about the fitness classes - things I didn't think I'd like turned out to be my favorites.
Results: In 10 days, I lost 5 lbs, 2 in. off chest and hips, and dropped cholesterol nearly 30 points. Even better - overcame addiction to soft drinks and sugar, and returned in the frame of mind to keep up the momentum.
