We opted for the least expensive room, which with the AAA rate came out to $47 (not including taxes). The lagoon-view rooms were about $30 more expensive, and came with a microwave and fridge. Maybe these lagoon-view rooms have also received updating, however the room that we stayed in had not been updated.
The only thing that could qualify as an "update" in our room was the flat screen television, and the walls looked freshly painted with a bright yellow and orange that matched the bedspreads. Everything else in the room was old. The green carpet looked dirty and well-worn. The drapes were green, which really didn't match the bedspread and new paint color. The bathroom and sink area looked original. The lack of updates wasn't a huge deal (and kind of expected), because the price was so low. The carpet definitely needed to be replaced, but other than that the room felt clean. The pillows were really comfortable!
The reception building is a 5-minute walk from the building where the rooms are. The hotel offers a few covered parking spaces under the building, and the rest of the parking isn't too far of a walk from the entrance. The downstairs lobby is a little bare, shabby and uninviting, and could use some investment to make it a more functional space. The hallways in the building are all open-air, and therefore concrete and bare.
This property is located across the street from the beach, but because of how the property is set-up it is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel building to the public beach access.
The free internet worked well. The free breakfast had: scrambled eggs, sausage, cereal, oatmeal, juice/coffee/tea, hot waffles, donuts & muffins. They do have a mini breakfast in the building lobby (tea/coffee & muffins), but for the main breakfast you must go to the reception building. There was a nice workout room in the reception building, but I did not use it.
The reception directed us to a local restaurant called "Sea Shack". It was amazing! A bit of a hole in the wall, and tucked away in an inconspicuous location, but the food was great! You must drive here, but it is only a 5-minute drive.
There is a supermarket and a small shopping center with restaurants within a 5-minute walk of the hotel.
