“ok hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2011

the outside looks better than the inside. the fridge in our room was broken but the microwave worked at least. the hotel was pretty old. the ceiling in our bathroom was falling apart from moisture and by the time we left a piece of it had fallen off. the bed was comfortable and it had the basic necessities but thats it. nothing nice. the water pressure was horrible. it was weak and the hot water kept turning on and off. the breakfast was ok.. waffles, toast, muffins...

“La Quinta is looking up, this was an excellent bargain.”

On a recent two and half week trip, we stayed at various properties. we stayed at three different La Quinta properties in three different states. I have to admit I was very pleasantly surprised by all three. As a matter of fact, I was so pleased, when we had to visit Greenville, SC for three days I booked us in this La Quinta. The AARP rate was about $50.00 and it included their Daybreak breakfast. This property appeared to be an older motel, but it was as clean as could be and the rooms had been remodeled. There was still an older model tube type TV in our room, but the cable reception was clear and contained several premium channels. All in all, a comfortable king sized bedroom.
The breakfast was minimal, but adequate. They had waffles, cereal, yogurt, coffee, juice, boiled eggs and french toast pieces.
We visit Greenville regularly to see family and we used to stay at a Holiday Inn Express, from now on we will stay at this La Quinta. An excellent bargain.

“thought it was a joke, read the last for the "punchline"”

My stay started late at night, I was traveling through the area and that was as far as I could drive for the night. I walked in to the lobby, waited for the night clerk to get off the phone and when she found the time to help me she acted as though I was bothering her. I asked about availability, and she stated that there were plenty of rooms left, I let her know I was in the La Quinta rewards program and asked for a room. The Sign out front states "Rates $49.99" I was a late night check in and didnt expect to be quoted 20% and 30% higher than the advertised rates. I asked about the posted rate and she said, "oh I guess I could do that" I got the lower advertised rate, but the room was aweful.

Mold is something I am allergic to, and the room I was given had me taking a benedryl in 30 minutes.

Checked in at 3:30 am, at 10:30 am, which is an hour and a half before check out there was a beating on my door even though the do not disturb sign was outside. Maintenance wanted to change the shower head. I declined to let the person enter, and let him know I was just getting out of bed.

When I checked out I asked the clerk if she was a manager (the office door was open and someone was in there at the desk) she told me that she was not a manger but she would be happy to assist me. I asked if it was hotel policy to try and upcharge guests that check in late. I was informed that the posted rate only applies to certain check ins. I asked about having maintenance ignore the do not disturb sign and I was told yes they have projects they have to do and most guests are checked out by that time.

Unhappy was an understatement, and I was content to just send a complaint to the hotel. My phone rang while on the road and the hotel manager called me. He asked me "what my problem was" and actually wanted to argue with me about the issues I had. Nice. I told him to not waste any more of my time and hung up the phone.

STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

“Don't judge a book by its cover - a great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

From the outside, folks may be dissuaded to check out the La Quinta. I was when I pulled into the lot, where an older wooden fence looked as though it had seen better days and with a row of rooms facing a truck access to an adjacent commercial area. However, I found the hotel here on TripAdvisor and got a good rate, so I took a gamble in spite of its #18 ranking. It paid off.

The hotel itself is an older building (no indoor room access), but the room and the bathroom were in excellent shape. The beds were comfortable and there was no issue with cleanliness at all. The room even had a table/desk area for its visitors. I did not try the internet out - the television was older but was easy enough to use. There is also a work station in the lobby area, which itself was clean and well kept. Service was so-so upon check-in but was excellent the following morning. Breakfast in the morning was above average for a standard motel (waffle irons). For $55 for a night's stay, I would do it again if I'm just looking for a place to crash for the night.
