Desk staff and breakfast staff were attentive and helpful. Room was bright and cheerful, try to get one with a waterview. Pity that the windows are sealed shut but at least you have some sense of being right in the heart of the marina and marshlands.
Breakfast room was bright and cheerful and staff kept everything well-stocked. There is an outdoor seating area that would be inviting in warmer weather. Hampton Inn is the only chain we stay at that has a decent cup of coffee--their "robust" blend--though it would be even better with halfandhalf cream instead of the various flavoured "creamers" on offer.
One advisory: the marina and walkway outside the Hampton Inn is NOT the marina and walkway that appears in various promotional pictures for oldtown Georgetown but rather a bit over a mile away. You can't walk directly from the hotel to the oldtown area. This was my error. No big deal, it's only a five minute drive.
Georgetown is often spoken of together with Beaufort as a choice Low Country destination. We've been twice to Beaufort and decided this year to visit Georgetown. While Georgetown has many attractive old homes and gardens and some fine nearby attractions--Hampton Plantation, for one, is glorious--I'd have to say that it is not really on the same level as the Beaufort area. If you have time for only one, best to head for Beaufort.
