“Daufuskie Island Jan 2012”

The majority of the Island is closed but there are signs of new life. We basically had the entire island to ourselves and really enjoyed the peace. The resort is still closed but we stayed at Bloody Point condos, the beach was beautiful and the sunrise and sunsets were just awesome. We had the penthouse which had wide open views of the ocean. Luckily the Eagles Nest restuarant is now open for all three meals, under new ownership and has a new chef. The drinks, meals and the staff were VERY good and well priced. We will be going back in the summer and I hope the Island comes back from the hard times.

“Daufuskie Island Club Reopening”

We went to the old resort for years before it went BK. This year we went over from HH to visit the resort.

I ran into the project manager for the new owner. They bought the inn, and surrounding area. They are trying to buy the pool area,
docs and boats from the bank but no luck yet.

They are opening for limited service by next year. The Jack Nicklaus golf course is already open. Contrary to rumors there was only a little black mold in the HVAC system and they took care of it.

“GHOST ISLAND”

We did not stay at the resort, but did take the 30 minute boat cruise to the island and rented a very cool 4x4 golf cart. We drove around looking at the overgrown, deserted golf course. The Inn is closed with chains on the doors so we cruised the grounds on the cart. You could never do that if it was open. The Spa was closed so we did some donuts in the parking lot and walked around to see the buildings falling apart. There was some steel working artist selling iron statues and a woman selling pottery for way too much. There were few people out anywhere. We had a deserted island for ourselves to explore. Great time!

“Do not waste the money”

I am not sure this place is still in business. We are considering another trip down to Daufuskie Island (and will not choose the 'spa'), and I wanted to post this in case anyone else was considering staying here. My hubby and I went down for a romantic weekend over Valentine’s day in 09. I know this is dated, and I hope they've improved.
We brought our dogs (we are always on the search for dog friendly accommodations -nice ones). Well, first no one was even in the lobby when we arrived, and we didn't quite understand this until later on when we realized this place is pretty much abandoned. We thought oh well it IS winter, and surely its hopping like mad in summer. It was rather a disappointment that no one was around to take care of us, and we saw some staff actually sleeping in chairs (LOL- seriously). There is NO FOOD on Daufuskie, so you're limited to their rather subpar menu- and they only offer the lunch menu even in the evenings in winter (5 selections- no breakfast- have you ever wanted to eat a BLT for breakfast?)-GREAT- so much for romantic seaside sinner for two. This was even hard to come by. No drinks in the room, no room service. Wowser, resort? Not by my count. Also obviously we were not able to use the pools, spa, tennis courts (as of course none of this was open - not that we wanted to or expected to be able to swim in February), but I thought it was rather TACKY for such a subpar establishment to tack on "resort fees" for use of their facilities when none were open. LOL Honestly what a joke. Do not stay here. We know about resort fees, and certainly do not mind paying them for resort locations... arguably however, they should be available.
