“Work Crew Material”

Stopped at the Days Inn on Garners Ferry Road. Now I know it's not a decent Mariott, but sheesh. The sink was black and dirty, the King bed was board stiff (which killed my back) and their was a bed obviously missing from the room and mold in the shower. Oh.. Our particular room had one outlet to share between two lamps, a clock and whatever you need to plug in. From what I was told, the new owners did the corporate thing and axed the full-time employees to save on paying benes and it shows in the rooms. I hate leaving negative reviews, but paying for a night of no sleep is really irksome. Now I have a 12 drive on no sleep :(

Room Tip: I have no tips. Only had one room.

“Did U see "Deliverance?"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

This was a NASTY scary hotel.

Days Inn, you need to see this one 'cause U are close to getting sued in the future lest U tend to this matter.

I am a loyal Days Inn guest. I've worked for Days Inn in the past. I KNOW what Days Inn Corporation expects.

The Days Inn Suites in Columbia, SC (Garner's Ferry Rd) was NOT a Days Inn. It was a nasty civilian nightmare out of the movie "Deliverance." There was NO hot water in my room, but I DID like the huge bathtubs. My room itself was cool. It was big and clean and quiet so no complaints there. The rest of the hotel was a drag. The pool was dirty and had a dead animal in it, I believe it was a POSSUM!

Staying here reminded me of that episode of "Married With Children" when the Bundy family goes to a nasty hotel in Florida and find it not to their expectations.

What made an otherwise nice vacation bad for me was when the front desk clerk, a young man, made it a point to inform me he was a homosexual. What does this have to do with me being a guest and him being a clerk at the Day's Inn? I was insulted he was trying to get guests to discriminate against him, so he could sue the hotel. That is what I felt. I was a paralegal so I know people do this. PLUS, homosexuality is usually frowned upon by Southerners and Christians, who comprise most of this area. I felt like this man was pushing his nasty sick lifestyle on ME and I felt threatened by it.

First of all, lets FIRE him, clean up and repair the hotel and get some freakin' hot water. I am a US Marine who came to see my niece graduate Ft. Jackson and was appaled by the state of this hotel, much as we Marines are used to spartan dwellings. Hey, I PAID for a nice hotel so I expect a little more.

I WILL comment that the rest of the staff was professional, especially one man, who worked the night shift the first two nights I was there. When I told him I had no hot water, he gracefully allowed me to use another hotel room to get my hot bath. Thank you sir!

Thank you.

Room Tip: Bring RAID, your GUN, and your BIBLE. Pray alot, and be careful what U eat in the hotel. Stay out of...

“Barely adequate & still rundown, but staff was much nicer than previous reviewers found”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2011

We stayed here for two nights for our son's graduation from Basic Training.

The good included:
A very nice hot breakfast: biscuits & gravy, eggs, sausages, juices, cereal & milk, waffles.
While understaffed in my opinion, the staff was pleasant.
There were no bugs in our room.
The air conditioner worked.
The bedding was clean.
The drapes were clean and worked well.
The room itself had no unpleasant odor.

The bad or at minimum indifferent:
Our room had apparently barely been vacuumed - crumbs were under a chair.
There were very unsightly rust stains in the bathroom - the floor was stained with rust behind the toilet...which was pretty grotty around the base of it, too. There was no exhaust fan for the bathroom, except a built-in very weak vent that sort of pulled the air out. In an obvious spot next to the bed, a one-by-four inch spot had been been scraped from the wall, and needed to be patched and painted again. Shabby.

The lighting in the room was very bad. Not a single light bulb was actually bright, and even with all of the lights on the room was still dimly lit.

The air conditioner cycled on and off through the night, causing me to wake every time it went quiet.

Coming back to our room after the first day, an extra blanket we'd used was left in a crumpled pile on the made bed, when it would've taken less than a minute to fold it properly. We had a room with 2 King beds. One bed was positioned in a corner, making it quite awkward to get in and out of. As well, it seemed to my husband that the matteress on that corner bed was worn out. Our daughter slept on the other King and had no complaints. We paid $10 for a roll-away to accommodate another of our kids who was able to join us for one night.

The pool is still in serious need of a makeover, as is the entire hotel - it's surprising to me that a chain hotel like Days Inn would be so beat-up. The windows need washing. Great swathes of tint coating have peeled off the windows. My daughter has never met a pool she didn't want to jump into, until she saw that one. The hall carpet was in need of vacuuming - workers were carrying out rolls of carpet during our stay there. Maybe they aren't bothering to vacuum since it will eventually be replaced. Hah!

Not having read the other reviews here prior to making our reservation, I can only say that I am extremely happy that things were relatively clean and there weren't bugs!

“What a dump and ripoff!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

Comfort Suites was full and they directed us across the street to Days Inn. A roach ran out of the bathroom when I turned the light on. The tub was stained and there was no plug, so we called the front desk. After a few minutes they called back and said they couldn't find a stopper. We ended up cramming a washcloth into the drain so the children could have a bath.

The pool is green, the in-room fridge rattles so much you can hardly sleep. Even the kids are grossed out.

This room cost almost $100 and is a total ripoff. We'll never stay at another Days Inn even if it means camping instead!

“Terrible!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2010

This hotel is now a Days Inn. I've stayed in many hotels, and I can usually 'rough it' pretty well, but this hotel was absolutely disgusting. It was something like you'd see in a movie with roaches crawling on the walls- literally! I'll spend the extra money next time and stay somewhere else.
