Our stay at this Knights Inn lasted less than five minutes. First, we arrived and were "greeted" by a less than pleasant front desk clerk who seemed bothered that we even walked through the door. After getting confused whether we actually wanted a "smoking" or "non-smoking" room, we were given a key to our room.
Upon opening the door, the smell of the stale air overcame us, and we nearly fell through the floor of the room, as the Knight's Inn rooms are built with a modular design, which obviously did not withstand the test of time! When we made the reservation, we were told ALL the rooms were recently renovated, which is NOT the case.
Our room looked like it had not been updated in about twenty years!
In addition to the terrible floor (and worn-out carpet), let's see: the ceiling had mildew stains, the beds looked like cardboard boxes with covers on them, the door to the adjoining room had a flimsy lock and the door was not even sealed on the top of the frame (there was more than one inch of OPEN SPACE between the door and the frame!
The bathroom was FILTHY. The floor and tiles were dirty, chipped and there was hair on the floor. The only bright spot, the tub looked clean.
This hotel has weekly rates as well, and it was noisy in the parking lot when we were there, plus there were BBQ grills left right outside some of the wooden doors (can we say fire code violation?)
It was interesting to note that upon check-in there was a sign that read "NO REFUNDS AFTER FIFTEEN MINUTES." My guess is that many of the guests take advantage of the 15-minute rule! I am glad they have that, as I would rather sleep in my car at a rest area, than stay at this motel.
When we asked for a refund, we were given our money back and told that we got a good deal by reserving on the internet! Ridiculous, as many other Columbia hotels at the same price were similarly priced and are in much better shape. I would not stay at this motel for FREE and Knights Inn should be embarrassed to have their name tied-in to this property.
It is obviously a terribly neglected, poorly run property. The front desk clerk never asked what the problems were or offered to change our room. It seemed like it was regular routine for her to refund the money without question or concern.
That in my opinion, is absolutely shameful. I would avoid this motel at all costs. At the same exit, I enjoyed my stay at the Travelodge and I am writing a separate review of that on this site, as well. It was six dollars more a night than the Knights Inn and it was six dollars VERY WELL SPENT!
