We most recently stayed at this hotel a week ago, for 3 nights. This is our preferred hotel when we are in town. Here are the reasons we like it so much:
WHAT WE LOVE:
~ Front desk staff is always very helpful, friendly, and professional
~We've never had an issue with our room, our reservation, or any requests
~There is a coffee bar with free coffee all day and night in the lobby with fresh, hot cookies served every evening at around 6pm
~Breakfast always has at least two hot suggestions along with fruit, yogurt, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, waffles you can make yourself, and juices (we had omelettes & hash browns one day and an egg 'quiche' with flaky crust on the bottom and wonderful sausage links the next day)
~Mattresses are firm and in great shape, with soft bedding and duvet covers that are laundered after every guest leaves - no 'scary' bedspreads
~USA Today in front of your door each morning is a great 'extra'
~Breakfast area is really nice and bright as is general lobby/lounge on the ground floor
~Outdoor pool area is small (read quiet) with lounge chairs and table/chairs around and can be a nice place to sit and read at the end of the day
ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT ON:
~No biscuits
We were there for three days and not once did the breakfast include their famous biscuits. This is one of the reasons we stay at this hotel - they are really good biscuits! DISAPPOINTED THIS TRIP!
~No USA Today over the weekend
We were told that they just didn't receive them as they normally do, but I thought they should have tried harder to obtain them. We got it again on Monday before we checked out.
~Home games
Clemson University home games will pose a problem for anyone staying during one of those weekends - we actually planned a 'non-home game' weekend to come back for this reason. The last time we were at this hotel during one of these games, the hotel was booked solid and there was a small fire in one of the rooms - hmmm - what are the odds? So we had to stand out in the parking lot (it was pretty chilly) for an hour. They handled it well and brought out blankets and stuff, but it left a bad taste in our mouths and we try to avoid 'big game' weekends. A suggestion to the hotel would be to ask upon check-in if they are here for the game or not, and put all of us 'not here for the game' people in the front of the hotel and the others in the back. To be fair, any hotel in Clemson will have the same problem on game weekends.
