We had a great time at the Battery Carriage House inn. It's a beautiful inn in a wonderful location next to Charleston harbor. The staff was great, very friendly and attentive. The breakfast is really nice, with good choices and presentation. Very tasty! The room was fresh and clean, very private and comfortable. We had a perfect stay, no complaints at all and will most certainly be returning. Could not ask for a more perfect setting or staff, they were the best!

We had a very nice getaway weekend. We had an "upper Queen" room, Number 8. Simply but very nicely appointed. It was just as described. We loved the steam shower! Each morning we had breakfast in quiet and lush garden, although you might want to take breakfast in room if it rained hard the night before. They had cookies out every afternoon, followed by wine and cheese in the evening. Breakfast was simple continental breakfast with good coffee--always a plus.

No, you aren't staying in the big house in the photos, you are staying in the converted carriage house, hence the name. But if it is location you want, this is the place to stay, and the location is what you are paying for.
We have stayed in two different rooms here, both under the porch and both exactly as described by the innkeepers. One had a small sitting area that used to be the cistern, with the bedroom having been the old wine cellar. There were no windows in this room except the french doors through which you enter the room. The other room which was the former kitchen area of the house had no sitting room but did have a window and the french doors. There is a large outdoor sitting area right outside of these rooms and under the porch of the main house, with wicker chairs and tables. No direct sun in here which kept the rooms relatively cool.
Breakfast here was simple and what we fix at home....juice, coffee, cereal and yogurt. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
If it is new, sumptuous decor and pampered service you are after, stay at the Charleston Place or somewhere like it. If on the other hand you want to stay in a really unique place on the battery, then look no further.
