This was my second stay at the Anchorage Inn. The first a couple of years ago was for a mini-vacation. I liked it well enough to return - this time with a friend to run the Charleston Half Marathon. The location is perfect and the accomodations are adequate. The room was a bit small and pretty dark in that there is no outside window. But it was clean and comfortable and fit our needs. The wine and cheese is a nice touch-not gourmet by any means. However there is not enough seating ,so both times I have been there, we had to sit on the bench in the hall. The breakfast is lovely. In addition to the usual fare (bagels, sweet rolls, yogurt etc), there is fresh fruit salad and biscuits and gravy and REALLY good coffee. You eat on tables covered wtih white tableclothes and use real silverware, plates, cups and saucers. No cheap plastic. If I had one complaint, it is that the staff, while polite, was not very friendly-which is kind of surprising for Charleston. I would stay there again if for no other reason than the location is fabulous and the price is not bad for a downtown Charleston hotel.
