“Great Weekend Away!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

The hotel is ok - nothing spectacular - however, it was great to have a fire going in our room and the bed was very clean and comfortable. We had everything we needed.
Middleton Place is absolutely beautiful. I recommend taking a weekend to walk around the grounds. The restaurant isn't all that great but there are some good places across the river about 20 mintues away.

“Unique, restful, great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

As others have said, the Inn is certainly different from what you would expect at a plantation. That said, it was unique and a perfect setting to relax and enjoy the offerings of Middleton Place. The room was large and we loved the fireplace and windows. Access to Middleton Place made for a delightful day to explore the plantation at our leisure. Breakfast was a brief stroll from our building at the Lake House and was certainly adequate. The only word of caution is that while we found the garden tub/shower design delightful, it could be a challenge for those with any mobility issues. We would certainly return!

Thank you for the review guest! The tub/shower combination is indeed unique; offering guests a 150-garden style tub can have its challenges. We do have handicap assessable rooms where shower bars and handles are provided and can bring in items such as a shower chair and handheld nozzle to assist. The entrance to the tub is just the right height to be able to sit and turn comfortably and safely into it as needed. Thank you for pointing this fact out to potential guests and I hope to have you back to visit soon! All my best, Abigail M. Martin, General Manager

“Unique hotel and experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We stayed January 2, 3, 4 2011 - only getting around to reviewing it now. Have to agree with many of the comments listed previously - beautiful location next to Middleton Place (that is worth the price, just to have immediate access), quiet, peaceful, enjoyable manager's reception and breakfast, loved the rooms - the windows, the fireplace, beautiful views - even in January. I especially agree with the review by Higpaws12 on Aug 29 2011. Many of the somewhat negative comments come down to what you are expecting from a hotel and this is a unique place which we really liked but probably isn't for everyone depending on their...expectations. We would return in a heartbeat but...

Our stay was marred by two issues. Being that the rooms have concrete floors, you will hear people walking above you. If this bothers you, ask for a 2nd floor room. The second issue was more significant to us and took some effort to get it somewhat resolved. Every time the guests above our room had a shower/bath the water dripped down into our bathroom/tub. when my wife walked to reception to take care of this, the man on duty brushed her off with the attitude of "I hope your makeup didn't get ruined." I then went up and talked to a woman who said that the guests upstairs were moving out that day and she would put a hold on anyone else moving in. We did not ask outright to be given a different room (we're pretty easy going - just wanted management to know.) We also did not notify the general manager when we returned home. I did not read any other reviews over the past year complaining about leaking bathrooms so I am sure this problem was taken care of - and hopefully the man at reception was also. Had this not been an issue, overall ratings would be much higher as we really thought it was a wonderful place.

Room Tip: Do arrive before it is dark as that will help you get settled in much easier. If you are bothered...

“Unique - a destination in itself”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We chose the Inn at Middleton Place on a recent visit to Charleston - what a great decision! The grounds are beautiful. The new age style retreat has been built on part of the grounds of the rice plantation and is a 5 minute stroll to the plantation house, historical gardens and fabulous restaurant. Our rooms were southwest in feel with floor to ceiling windows and a fireplace. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful and the room very clean and comfortable. The lodge happy hour every evening was a nice place to relax together after a day in Charleston - only 20 minutes away. The Lake House breakfast has a lovely natural setting with a deck. Horseback riding is nature trip through the woods, along the river and showcasing the plantation wildlife. The gardens are worth the trip and the restaurant is fantastic. Reservations are helpful at the latter. Overall a terrific, unique experience. Everyone loved it from adults to teenage boys. We will be back!!!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the riverview grand with a queen and pull out sofa to accomodate 4 grown people.

“Great Place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

This is a well hidden but great place to stay and relax. You have access to the Middleton Plantation, with it's beautiful gardens, and interpretive life. It's a great place to just walk and enjoy nature. The room was very rustic, with a huge garden tub, lots of wood for the fireplace and plenty of window space to overlook the Ashley River.
