“New favorite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2012 NEW

I was looking for something new on a recent trip through Charleston and found the Market Pavilion rooftop bar. It was a great experience and I plan on returning on my next trip. The staff was excellent and the bartenders Dave and Jr remembered my drink order after the first one and I didn't have to ask the rest of the evening. The best bartenders I've ran across in the southeast. Next trip, I'm planning on booking a room and staying there, the location is excellent.

“Perfect location for walking Historic Charleston!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2012 NEW

We two couples were touring SC and stayed at Market Pavillion Tue-Thur May 15-17. I used my Visa reward points to pay for a 2Q luxury room through my points booking site. I had read in another review that others booking through a secondary site had encountered additional room charges of $50 per person per night for more than 2 guests per room. We did not experience this. At checkout, you are billed $20 per night plus tax for parking, but it is a real convenience to hand the keys to the valet and not worry about moving the car until you request it upon departure. (We fit 40-somethings walked everywhere on the Historic pennisula without a problem.) We had a lovely room, very French with heavy drapery and upholstry, and a large marble bath with separate tub and shower. Looking down from our 4th floor room, the marketplace (enjoyable craft shopping) was directly below. Breakfast was set out on each floor by the elevator consisting of juices, coffee, oranges, apples, bananas, and puff pastries. We thought the pastries lacked a bit and would have been happier with just some regular muffins or pecan/cinnamon rolls. Because the rooftop bar is open to the public, guests need to use their room key to access their guest floors in the elevator. This keeps just anyone from being able to wander the guest halls. We were looking forward to a relaxing evening in the pool, but discovered that it closes at 4pm. Because the rooftop bar is surrounding the pool, we would have felt "on display" to use the pool during bar hours anyway. So it is very different from what you would expect from a typical hotel pool. The service was friendly and efficient and the gentlemen serving the front doors extremely helpful and enjoyable. For a reasonable and casual meal, we liked the Noisy Oyster across the street and would use the awesome Squeeze Bar a few doors down as a meeting place. Overall, we were very happy with our stay at Market Pavillion; it is the perfect location for seeing this beautiful historic city on foot. Thank you for your hospitality.

“Quick Trip Through Charleston”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2012

This review is limited to the Hotel Rooftop Bar as we were just passing through Charleston and heard that it had great drinks and a great view of the harbor. We were not dissappointed, although we were under dressed in our motorcycle attire, we enjoyed some great drinks and a great view on a crystal clear night. A special thanks to Jacqueline from Lancaster PA our waittress who reminded us of home as my wife's sister is from the Lancaster. Great service and an overall great evening, would definitely go back to stay longer and try the full dinner experience.

Thank you for visiting the Pavilion Bar. I am glad you were not disappointed, and that Jacqueline provided great service. We hope that when you are back in town you will indeed visit the Pavilion Bar again and perhaps, Grill 225 for a great dining experience.
Thank you

“"Best Hotel in Charleston"”

Always greeted from start to finish from every employee with respect & gratitude. The concierge level is perfect, for down to earth people who don't feel like they're better than others. Johno, Kelly, & Susanne are the greatest! Charleston Place is a great hotel, but not as personable. We're so thankful to be able to stay at such a wonderful hotel with wonderful employees. Keep it up!

Room Tip: Get a room with even numbers.

Thank you so very much for your kind words. Our staff of professionals really do care about our guests and I am glad it showed through their interaction with you. I know Johno, Kelly and Suzanne will be pleased to know their efforts did not go unnoticed. I thank you as well for the favorable comparison to that other hotel. Thank you for choosing the Market Pavilion Hotel, we look forward to serving you again.

“Worst Hotel in Charleston”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2012

Upon arrival at the Market Pavillion Hotel, you will be grudgingly acknowledged by one of the bleached blondre front desk clerks. You will be handed without explanation your room key.

The only employees at this hotel who are worthy of working in Charleston are the gentlemen who run the Concierge Parlor. They are wonderfully helpful. Do be award that this is a VERY SMALL alcove just off the elevator on the Concierge level...only seats a few people and serves the same limited food items at the same limited times each day, if you are accustomed to the Concierge level, service, and amenities at the Ritz as we are, this is shockingly lacking.

Invest your money and time in one of the great Inns or the Charleston Place where you will be appreciated and treated with respect and hospitality. The Market Pavilion Hotel is a joke.

Thank you for your candor. I am very sorry you did not enjoy your visit here at the hotel. We typically receive very positive reviews from our guests and it is disppointing that you feel so negative about the experience. We in fact had a guest not too long ago that felt we offered far more then the Ritz. We take all comments very seriously and appreciate your feedback. And if I may address you by your handle, thank you again for your feedback, "wine girl."
