“Good value: clean room, helpful staff, comfortable bed”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed in three different Sleep Inns on a 10-day trip. All were a good value. This one was in the process of a little refurbishing, painting, etc. Very little inconvenience though. The bed was comfortable (a king). The breakfast was good. The room had a walk-in shower, good quality sheets and towels. The breakfast had an expanded continental menu. Though this motel is on a busy street, we were not bothered by noise. There were many eating places within blocks. The staff was helpful and friendly. I always walk the grounds in multiple loops each morning and felt safe and comfortable doing so here. The room doors opened onto an inner hall rather than outside, which I appreciate. Though we usually walked up the stairs to the second floor, there is an elevator which worked fine throughout our stay. The room had a microwave and a refrigerator in good working order. I would stay here again if in the area. A very good value.

Many thanks to this guest for taking the time to post their review. We always appreciate guest feedback as it allows us to target our efforts at improvement at what matters most, the opinions of our guests.

Our goal is to offer clean, comfortable accommodations with excellent guest service. Obviously, in this case, we came close to achieving this goal. We share these comments with our staff; I am sure they will be excited to read that their hard work was appreciated.

Again, thank you for your comments. We hope to see you again.

“Low budget, barely meets low expectations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Realizing that you are getting a hotel in this area at a very good deal, you should not expect too much. That said, we found the service (front desk and breakfast room) to be very good with the exception of some housekeeping issues. The lobby and breakfast areas are bright, clean and cheerful. The room is a decent size with a king bed. It appeared clean, but we found the desk chair arms and the writing desk to be kind of sticky (we gave them a good wash down). The carpeting was quite old and frayed in spots. Looked like it had been regularly vacuumed, but probably not deep-cleaned/shampooed in a really long time - a few spots were discoloured and my wife's white socks seemed dingy after a short time walking around.

There is only a shower stall in the very small bathroom (sort of cupboard-sized) but you should know what to expect in advance - we didn't care about this. the furniture is pretty dated and quite scratched up in spots. The bed was comfortable with lots of pillows - although they were so thin you needed 2 or 3 under your head to be comfortable. Also, the tv is an old tube-style, but the picture quality and channel selections were quite good. Breakfast was ok - nothing special, but certainly quite adequate, and in fact, the first place on our trip that offered a selection of bagels (not just plain) such as poppy or sesame seed.

So there could certainly could be improvements (especially in housekeeping), but overall it's an adequate stay for a night or two.

Many thanks to this guest for taking the time to share their opinions. We always appreciate guest feedback, be it positive or negative, as it allows us to constantly improve our operation.

I am sorry that this guest did not thoroughly enjoy their visit with us. Our goal is to offer clean, comfortable accommodations with excellent guest service. Obviously, in this case, we fell short of our goal. I have directed our Housekeeping Manager to re-train our staff on the importance of cleaning every surface in the guest rooms.

Again, thank you for your comments and for the opportunity to serve you. We hope to see you again.

“complaint”

My stay the weekend of January 14-16 was not the best. The accommodation were good but the noise level was unbearable for me. I could not sleep soundly due to other guest above my room walking so hard. The refrigerator in my room hummed to loud as it turn automatically on. I could hear people talking as they walked the halls in the morning hours.
The room was adequate but not very sound proof for keeping other noises concealed. In your renovations please try to make guest as comfortable as possible. Maybe I'm just a light sleeper. No more for me.

“Return Visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Visited Charleston the end of February 2011 with a group of 6 people. We returned December 29, 2011 with a group of 10 to celebrate New Years Eve. We decided to stay @ the Sleep Inn because we had previously stayed and knew it was a good hotel. When we arrived we found out that they were under construction, replacing carpet ect. We never heard a sound! They 1st of all put us on a floor were there was no construction, so this was never a problem. The hotel was even better this time! Rooms still clean, no bad smells, breakfast was typical cereal fruit ect. The only thing I would warn people about is the taxi request. I asked for a cab, thinking I would be getting Yellow Cab, ect, or some other well known cab. The lady at the front desk recommended "Derek", so i said sure. She said make sure you tell him I sent you...ok...what they didnt tell us was Derek charged $9 per person! We took a 5 mile ride and it cost us $60 !! Needless to say, we did not call Derek to pick us back up, instead we found another cab who brought us back for $10.35 TOTAL!. Needless to say we called this same driver for the rest of the trip. Hotel wise, great! Lady at the front desk recommending Derek, NOT SO GREAT.

I was very happy to read that you enjoyed your visit with us and were not distrubed by our renovation. Our goal is offer clean, comfortable accommodations with excellent guest service. Obviously, in this case, we came close to our goal.

I have instructed our Front Desk Agents to stop recommending "Derek" from this point forward. Thank you for letting me know about this issue.

Again, thank you for your comments. We look forward to serving you in the future.

“We thought there was a bowling alley upstairs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

We checked in early afterrnoon of Dec 30 and went for dinner in the historic district. Upon our return, we settled down for some tv before retiring when it started: BANG, BOOM, BUMP, BUMP, BANG. We figured it was a family moving in upstairs and would settle down after a bit, We couldn't have been more wrong. It kept up all night long until finally at 4am we decided it wasn't worth trying to sleep and we left for our trip back to North Carolina. Somebody in management ought to have their butt kicked for permitting crews to lay carpet while guests are trying to sleep. I didn't know the details until I read the previous reviewer comments. This kind of thing is just plain inconsiderate. Choice Hotels will be informed of our displeasure.

Room Tip: Someplace other than Sleep Inn Charleston.

I would like to thank this guest for taking the time to share their comments. We appreciate all guest feedback as it allows us to make improvements to our operation.

While we are sorry that this guest was disturbed, their were no carpet crews working on December 30th. And, there certainly were no crews working at 4AM. Perhaps this guest stayed on a different date, perhaps the noise came from somewhere outside the property. As noted in an earlier review, the problem carpet crew was terminated and all work ceases no later than 9PM each evening.

Again, thank you for your comments.
