“Great Location and Stay!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

My mom and I wanted to get away for a couple of days and had seen all of the Great reviews on Trip Advisor. Got a great rate for a couple of days stay last minute, booked about a week before our stay.
We paid to park our car at the hotel and walked everywhere. We did take a cab back from dinner each night and the cab was less than $5 one evening and $7 the next.
We had wanted to inquire about where the carriage tours leave from and price from the concierge but she was with another couple after we had breakfast. We stood there for about 10 minutes while she spoke with them and she did make eye contact with us but did not say anything along the lines of "I will be with you in just a minute". Rather than wait we decided to head towards the Market Street area where we knew the carraige had left from in previous visits to Charleston.
We did speak with her that afternoon and she made great suggestions for walking routes to dinner and her recommendation of Virginia's for breakfast the next morning was a great choice. We also took her recommendation on seeing one of the museum homes. The only concerns I have with the concierge is that there is only one person on duty as a time and when we came back in the afternoon the front desk had to call her to the concierge desk.
The hotel has been recently been renovated and was very clean and the rooms are nicely sized and decorated. The bathrooms have room to move around and such. The staff is friendly and beds are comfy. The breakfast staff was especially friendly and personable!
I really enjoyed my healthy start breakfast of egg whites with havarti cheese and turkey canadian bacon that allowed me to stay on my Weight Watchers plan. They serve Starbuck's coffee and while the cafe is not opened all day, you can get a Starbuck's coffee or othe beverage by asking at the front desk when the cafe is not opened.

Room Tip: We were on the 2nd floor and did not have any issues with noise. The windows have a sheer curtain a...

“Great place to stay - location, service, rooms - wonderful!!”

Recently traveled to Charleston with two girlfriends for a long weekend. The Marriott is a lovely property, conveniently located within walking distance of great restaurants, shopping, and the houses, gardens and churches of "enchanting" Charleston. The rooms are clean and beautifully appointed and the staff is courteous and responsive. What makes the Marriott truly standout, however, is the service provided by Chief Concierge Kevin McQuade. Within a half-hour of meeting Kevin, he had arranged our entire stay. No pouring over guidebooks and guessing which tours were right for us, nor taking chances on restaurants. Loved the walking tour with Ed Grimble, very informative. Definitely will be back and have added Kevin McQuade to my speed-dial under "All Things Charleston"!!

The concierge, Kevin McQuade, was fantastic! He gave us many wonderful ideas for our stay and helped steer us away from some activities that we might not have enjoyed. He was able to make several yummy dinner reservations and book us on some unbelievable tours.
The hotel is beautiful, right within walking distance of the historic downtown area.
I will definitely be back!

“First time stay, won't be my last!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

First time to the area and the location and reviews made my decision. I was very impressed when I arrived. I was not all the way in the door and was laready being greated. The ladies at the front desk gave me ideas for dinner that would deliver and it was great. I loved the decor and the elevator numbers, the looked quaint and old fashioned. The staff was very proud of their new hotel and it showed. Everything in my room was clean and lovely and the view from my window was beautiful. I liked the restaurant and the booths with the small tv's. The location was within walking distance of everything and there were so many restaurants that I wanted to try I will have to continue to come back again and agian.

Room Tip: Hotel does not have airport transportation but I suggest you take the area shuttle as it is $11-12 p...

“Nice hotel on outer edge of historic district”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We stayed here for 3 nights before going on a cruise out of Charleston June of 2010. This was our first trip to Charleston and we were unsure of the best places to visit in the area for such a short stay. The concierge Kevin helped us plan a fun and interesting itinerary. We took his suggestions and did a history tour and ghost tour with Ed Macy. Both were great tours. (so great in fact that we have taken these tours again at later trips to Charleston). We also went to two restaurants that Kevin suggested... Cru Cafe and Coast. Both were excellent. We liked the fact that the hotel had onsite parking and a pool as well. When we stayed at the hotel it was before its renovations and feel that it has lost some of its appeal. The new bar area is more like a starbucks which is a let down. We still feel the hotel is a nice value however in the Charleston area. Location is good but you will have to walk a little ways to get down to the waterfront areas and the battery.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony for the views.

Dear Kathy E,

Thank you for staying with us here in Charleston. Sounds like the restaurants and the tours were a great compliment to your visit. Kevin knows the very best restaurants and tours and he routinely visits and experiences their offerings to make sure that you get only the very best of Charleston while you are here.

We are disappointed that you didnt find the new style of our bar and lobby to your liking. Our hotel was recently renovated with the latest features of the new Courtyard Refreshing Business scheme and this is being implemented across the entire brand in all Courtyard lobbies. We realize that it wont fit everyones taste but we hope that our service and people will carry the day and that you will come back to see us since that is the most important element of any hotel.

We look forward to serving you again soon!

Sincerely,
John Dallas
