This is a nice, if a little bit worn, hotel in the heart of Charleston. Wonderful pool, food, and service. I had an experience here though that is both annoying and amusing. It was the week before the Super Bowl and I wanted to read online, an article by my favorite football writer at a leading sports website. I was not allowed to access the website through the hotel's server because it is "pornographic" - because this website also has pictures of women in swimsuits. I decided to try some other sites as a test - Valentine's Day is coming up, could I buy my wife something from a leading purveyor of women's underwear? No! Pornography!
I travel all over the place and I have never before encountered this in a hotel. It is pretty insulting that they assert their conservative values over their guests and do not allow us to police ourselves. It is 2012, and Charleston is a progressive, cosmopolitan city with visitors from all over the world. They are hypocrites to put up internet firewalls, but meanwhile pour liquor like there is no tomorrow in the bar.

Dear UsaTraveler49,
Thanks for reviewing your recent stay at Charleston Place. We are grateful for your valuable feedback. I am sorry for the difficulty you experienced with our wireless connection. We do not restrict guest internet access to any websites. What most likely happened is that you could have have strayed onto an unsecured corporate wireless network, where we do filter out different Game and Spam/Malware sites for security purposes.
I have spoken with our IT director to investigate this issue so that it won't inconvenience future guests. Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention.
Sincerely,
Paul Stracey
