Clean, friendly and so much to do for all ages. The best time of year is the festival of lights, November through January.

Very well maintained, well-run RV campground! It is a Good Sam's campground. Hard to believe it's inside a county park! They have all sorts of sites - pull-thru, full hook-up; water/electric only; tent sites; and even an overflow area. The first thing I liked about this campground was when I made the reservations, I reserved a specific site, so I knew exactly where we would be pulling our travel trailer (based on campground map provided by website). The roads coming through Charleston and leading up to the park were somewhat narrow and have some low-hanging (though beautiful) trees, making for a slightly stressful drive in (about the last 20 min of our drive). The park roads are nice and wide and paved. The camp sites are level, maybe a little sandy. Yes, there are bugs (lots of noseeums when we were there), but the campground cannot do much about the pests and they are a fact of camping. The staff was helpful and friendly. Well-stocked store. OH - and this place is VERY dog-friendly! Lots of dogs. Dogs dogs dogs. Must love dogs! And we do! The campground is located inside the James Island County Park, which itself is awesome! Lots to do; great walking paths. You can rent bikes, too. Great dog park where the dogs can also swim! You can fish and/or crab. The campground offers a shuttle service to/from downtown, too. My only complaint with it is you are boxed into specific hours (leave at 9am, return at 4pm); I wish they offered one or two more times for leaving/returning. But, we'd use the shuttle again even with the time constraint. Oh - one more thing travelers need to be aware of: no cable service (but who needs it when camping?); it's not a complaint for us. Will definitely be back!

My family stayed at James Island campground for 4 nights. This place is fantastic! The ammenities are excellent. It's only a few minutes from downtown Charleston & a few minutes in another direction for the plantations... it's a great location!! There's walking/biking paths throughout the entire park, a splash park, a water park, a fishing dock, a rock climbing wall & a dog park. There was a pancake breakfast that my son loved! The place is extremely well kept. The office/ general store was great. The campsite we had was fantastic (#29). We had so much space yet it still felt very woodsy! I highly recommend this campground! All five of us in my family say it's our favorite campground to date!

Wonderful facilities with friendly, concientious staff. Beautiful grounds with lots to do. Attened annual East Coast Kayak Festival. Stayed in primitive sites but had friends in regular power/water sites. All agree, it's a great value, great location (just miles from downtown Charleston), and a great place to visit for all ages. On-site food prepared for an event by facility was outstanding. Really enjoyed diversity of things to do (lake for kayaking, fishing), walking trails, bike paths. Do bring bug repellent to use for 1 hour in the am and pm when the critters are looking for your blood! Would definitely recommend. After hours entrance requires a pass code which they provide when you check in. Primitive rate was ~$25 for up to 6 people and 2 tents.
