My wife and I have stayed in many places in and around Charleston including those on the "main" streets of Market and King and other B&B's in the residential areas. The Wentworth Mansion was by far the most enjoyable. To fully appreciate it you need to understand its history and what you are getting yourself into. This is neither a B&B nor a hotel. It is a historic Inn. As such, the amenities are unique like a B&B but not cookie cutter (or as large and impersonal) as a hotel. The service was personal and attentive, but not stuffy. We enjoyed the easy access to beverages throughout the day. Breakfast at Circa 1886 in the morning was a wonderful, unexpected surprise. The food was outstanding and the service consistent with the rest of the experience.
The house was renovated in 1998 and each room is well appointed with modern facilities that one would expect at a property like this. A few places such as grout in the shower floor are starting to crack and show the age of being renovated almost 15 years ago. However, overall the property is exceptionally maintained and a pleasure for all who stay there.
We enjoyed the location -- being out of the main congestion of the shopping districts. However, some might find this inconvenient if you are not able to walk a few blocks. In some ways it is a shame to ever leave this place at all.
Room Tip: Room 13 was very nice but it overlooked ugly power lines outside. Probably ask for a room on the 2n...
