“First trip to a B and B. Won't be the last.”

Our first trip to Charleston and our first visit to a B and B was great. The Barksdale House Inn, is centrally located. We barely moved our car from arrival to departure. All the places we wanted to visit were within walking distance. We stayed in the Main house, room #3. The bed was comfortable, although a bit high off the ground. We had a few issues with the cleanliness and repair (hair in the tub drain and fireplace not working), but they were promptly corrected. This is an old house, the stairs creak and noise travels, perhaps the Carriage House is a bit less noisy. The staff was great, there if you wanted to chat or ask questions, but not pushy. The breakfast is available in your room, in the foyer, or outside on the porch - we did all 3 - and enjoyed each one. The pastries are home made and the hot food was great. It's also nice that breakfast is available until 10:00 am. Views are limited to the parking lot or a gym, but the house is not located in an area known for it's view. We enjoyed our stay, and recommend the Barksdale House Inn for it's value, location and service.

Room Tip: Carriage House may be quieter. Main House rooms 1 and 2 are near the kitchen and front door.

First time at Barksdale House. Good location btw King & Meeting.Parked behind main house and left car there the whole time. Either walked or rode DASH trolley(it's free) throughout historic downtown. Friendly, informative staff. Really nice decor and excellent breakfast. We stayed in the carriage house, felt very secure,no big problems. Next time want to try second floor main house.I viewed a few rooms, and fireplace and bigger bathtub looked nice. We've stayed in a 3 or 4 places in Charleston, this was the best deal.

Room Tip: downstairs carriage house --no traffic noise, wifi didn't work all the time, windows opened, whi...

“Enjoy the Stay, We Did!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was adequate, but had a lousy view of the parking lot next door and the parking spaces for the B&B. Our continental breakfast was nice with fresh fruit, cereals, muffins, coffee and tea. The pumpkin jam was awesome. Sherry was available for the guests and I suppose it is always five somewhere. The room could use a good cleaning around the edges of the wood flooring and the baseboards. Very convienent for walking to the market and some nice restaurants. Located between Meeting and King Street. We used a pedicab when we were exhausted at the end of the day to take a leisurely ride back to the Inn. You will enjoy the stay there. We did!

Thank you for your review. Great tip about the pedicabs, they are a great help! Also, remember that the trolleys are complimentary now and a stop is at each end of the block. I hope to have you as a guest again in the near future!

“Our Favorite Charleston Inn!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

My husband and I go to Charleston several times a year and have stayed in several places. We've stayed at the Barksdale several times now and it is by far our favorite. There are fancier places in Charleston, but they'll cost you plenty and won't beat the Barksdale for location and ease of parking. Every room at the inn is different and each has its own charm. We prefer the rooms in the Carriage house as they're larger and more private, but some of the rooms in the main house have jacuzzis and/or lovely decors. However, unless you're traveling alone, you might want to avoid room #8 which is quite small. In nice weather, it's lovely to sit on the porch or patio and enjoy the excellent buffet breakfast in the morning or ice tea in the afternoon. You're welcome to use the kitchen to get ice, glasses, borrow a hair dryer, etc. Staff is friendly but not intrusive. Reviewers who complained about noise from basketball games in the Cof C gym across the street have never stayed in the main market area where it's always noisy. Make reservations early in high season; rooms fill up fast.

Room Tip: Rooms in Carriage house are larger and more private.

Your review is appreciated, as is your repeat business! It sounds as though we achieved our goal of leaving a lasting positive impression with our guests. Having parking on property is definitely a great asset for being right in the historic district!

“Right room in right place at right price.”

We stayed three nights in an upper room in the carriage house. The price was good, the bed comfortable, and the breakfast real food, not the snack that pretends to be a breakfast in other lodgings. Only a short block to the restaurants and shops on King Street. A few blocks further to the old market. 24 hr CVS 2 blocks, 24 hr Harris-Teeter grocery about 8 blocks. Great stay!
